Top 50 Most Important Things We Learned from the NFL's Week 12

Tony SantorsaNov 27, 2011

It's official: I am the biggest Tim Tebow fan out there. Like it or not, you have to respect Tebow's abilities to keep his team in contention of the game and always finding a way to position his team for a victory.

Tebow's success continued Sunday afternoon against the San Diego Chargers, and that's just a fraction of how exciting the NFL's Week 12 was.

We witnessed the Indianapolis Colts lose yet again, Andy Dalton and A.J. Green play like seasoned veterans as well as the Houston Texans pulling off a key divisional victory with their third-string quarterback.

With that being said, allow me to kickoff the start of your work week in a bright way, a recap of Sunday's action.

Here are the top 50 most important things that we learned from the NFL's Week 12.

Ndamukong Suh Is the Dirtiest Player in the NFL

1 of 50

Stomping on a player is inexcusable. There is no excuse for Ndamukong Suh's actions on Thanksgiving against the Green Bay Packers.

Not only did Suh get an early exit to the showers, but he arguably cost his team any chance of upsetting the undefeated Packers.

I'm thinking a fine to go along with a two-game suspension for Suh.

The Green Bay Packers Have a Real Shot at Going Undefeated

2 of 50

The Green Bay Packers are a scary football team.

With their 27-15 victory over the Detroit Lions, the Packers now improve to an incredible 11-0.

It's safe to say that this was likely to be the team's most difficult game remaining on their schedule, and they simply dominated.

Will the Packers go 16-0? As of right now, I don't see why they won't.

Matthew Stafford Turns the Ball over Far Too Much

3 of 50

Matthew Stafford really hurt his team's chances of winning on Thanksgiving against the Green Bay Packers, as he threw three interceptions and recorded a mediocre 66.5 quarterback rating.

All in all, Stafford has thrown 13 interceptions the season as well as coughing up the ball four times.

In order for the Detroit Lions to be a legitimate playoff team, Stafford needs to take better care of the football.

Aaron Rodgers Is the NFL's MVP

4 of 50

Aaron Rodgers is without a doubt the favorite to win the 2011 NFL Most Valuable Player Award.

Rodgers was just unstoppable on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions, as his team improved to 11-0. The reigning Super Bowl MVP completed 22 of his 33 passes for 307 yards while throwing two touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Dallas Cowboys Are Ready to Make a Run for the Playoffs

5 of 50

Just five weeks ago, the Dallas Cowboys were 3-4 and looked to be some of the biggest frauds in the NFL. However, since then, the team has rallied of four straight wins and look like a team to be taken seriously.

Watch out for the Cowboys; they are white hot.

Brandon Marshall Is a Freak of Nature

6 of 50

How insane was that?

Brandon Marshall proved to be one of the top wide receivers in the NFL with his incredible catch against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

You have to realize the amount of concentration that Marshall had on this play while being literally choked out by Terrence Newman.

Matt Moore Isn't That Bad of a Quarterback

7 of 50

Matt Moore and the Miami Dolphins may have fell short 20-19 against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, but Moore had a solid game.

The once laughable quarterback posted a 99.5 quarterback rating while racking up 288 yards and tossing one touchdown.

DeMarco Murray Is the Real Deal

8 of 50

Teams need to start taking DeMarco Murray seriously. He may be a rookie, but he could very well be one of the top three running backs in the NFL.

Against the Miami Dolphins, Murray ran for 87 yards on the ground as well as reeling in four passes for 41 yards.

Laurent Robinson Has Emerged as a Respectable Wide Receiver

9 of 50

Laurent Robinson is a threatening wide receiver? You bet he is.

On Thanksgiving against the Miami Dolphins, Tony Romo found Robinson seven times for a total of 79 yards as well as scoring two touchdowns.

The San Francisco 49ers Have Flaws

10 of 50

There's no secret that Alex Smith isn't the reason why San Francisco is an elite team; it's because of their defense.

However, if you can put pressure on Smith and make him play like a rookie, the 49ers can be stopped.

The 2005 first-overall selection was tormented all night by the Baltimore Ravens pass rush, as he was sacked a grand total of nine times while accumulating only 140 yards and being picked off once.

Joe Flacco Can Play Like a Champion

11 of 50

Joe Flacco did not have the greatest numbers following the Thanksgiving night battle of the Harbaughs, but he played like a champion and got the job done.

Flacco completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 161 yards while throwing one touchdown and posting a solid 100.1 quarterback rating.

The Harbaugh Bowl 2.0 Could Be Super Bowl XLVI

12 of 50

Imagine this storyline: Brother vs. brother on the NFL's biggest stage, Super Bowl XLVI.

Believe it or not, this could happen, as the San Francisco 49ers are 9-2 and the Baltimore Ravens are 8-3, and both teams appear to be on a fast track for the playoffs.

The Minnesota Vikings Are a Bad Football Team

13 of 50

The Minnesota Vikings did not lose Sunday simply because Adrian Peterson did not play; they had already lost eight games entering Week 12.

Minnesota fell to 2-9 after a 24-14 loss against the Atlanta Falcons. There's no doubt that 2011 is a rebuilding year for the Vikings.

Matt Ryan Can Play at an Elite Level

14 of 50

Matt Ryan had a field day against the Minnesota Vikings in the Atlanta Falcons' 24-14 victory.

Ryan completed 79.4 percent of his passes for 262 yards while tossing three touchdowns and not turning the ball over once.

The Vikings Have No Running Back Without Adrian Peterson

15 of 50

There's really no surprise here.

On Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, the Minnesota Vikings ran for only 64 yards without Adrian Peterson and averaged a pitiful 2.7 yards per carry.

Percy Harvin Had a Breakout Game Against the Falcons

16 of 50

Well, it's about time that Percy Harvin actually showed up for a game this season for the Minnesota Vikings.

Against the Atlanta Falcons, Harvin caught eight passes for 95 yards and a touchdown while running for 11 yards on five carries. Not a bad day for the Florida product.

Christian Ponder Will Have a Successful Career in the NFL

17 of 50

Christian Ponder played like a seasoned veteran Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons and gave hope for all Minnesota Vikings fans out there.

The rookie out of FSU completed 17 of his 25 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown and finished the game with an impressive 103.1 quarterback rating.

The Indianapolis Colts Will Lose Every Single Game

18 of 50

The Indianapolis Colts a very bad football team; that's all I have to say.

0-16? You bet.

Andrew Luck Will Likely Be a Colt

19 of 50

The Indianapolis Colts will lose every single game this season. I guarantee it.

As they go 0-16, they'll be awarded the first overall pick in next year's draft and they better select Andrew Luck. If they don't, then they're a bunch of idiots. Plain and simple.

Cam Newton Is Phenomenal

20 of 50

Cam Newton had an absolutely incredible day against the lowly Indianapolis Colts.

I know, I know, the Colts are a bad team, but Newton did what any seasoned veteran would do: Destroy an inferior opponent.

Newton completed 74.1 percent of his passes for 208 yards while running for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Peyton Manning Could Retire by the End of the Season

21 of 50

According to sources, it looks like the Peyton Manning era could be over in Indianapolis.

There's a real good shot that Manning retires by the end of the season.

Sucking for Luck? You bet they are.

Tampa Bay Is Not a Playoff Team in 2011

22 of 50

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers missed their chance of making the playoffs Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, as they fell short, 23-17.

I know that the Bucs aren't officially eliminated, but they have lost five in a row and have a putrid 4-7 record.

Chris Johnson Isn't That Pathetic After all

23 of 50

Chris Johnson came alive against the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday afternoon with an incredible 190-yard rushing performance on only 23 carries.

Has CJ2K been pathetic this season? Well, despite his performance Sunday against the Bucs, he's been downright awful.

Matt Leinart Is Done for the Year

24 of 50

Sources are indicating that Matt Leinart does have a broken collarbone and will miss the remainder of a the season.

Now that's a major buzz-kill. In a matter of a week, the Houston Texans have lost their starting quarterback, Matt Schaub, and his backup, Leinart, for the entire season.

Leinart actually played great for the Texans, as he completed 10 of his 13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Blaine Gabbert Has Been a Huge Bust Thus Far for the Jaguars

25 of 50

You have to be pretty terrible to be benched as rookie, considering that Jacksonville's season is already over and they're just letting Blaine Gabbert play and show what he's got.

Gabbert was simply a train-wreck Sunday against the Texans. The rookie out of Missouri completed 44.8 percent of his passes for 136 yards and one interception.

T.J. Yates Is Houston's Starting Quarterback Moving Forward

26 of 50

As Matt Leinart is likely done for the season, sources are indicating that the rookie, T.J. Yates, will be the Houston Texans' quarterback moving forward.

Yates was decent in limited time Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The rookie out of North Carolina completed eight of his 15 passes for 70 yards and did not turn the ball over.

Patrick Peterson Is an Animal

27 of 50

Patrick Peterson has emerged as one of the most explosive return men in all of the NFL.

The rookie out of LSU ran back four punts for 95 yards, including a stellar 80-yard return for a score.

Beanie Wells Has Potential to Be a Solid Running Back in the NFL

28 of 50

Beanie Wells was an absolute monster Sunday for the Arizona Cardinals, as the Cards edged the St. Louis Rams, 23-20.

The Ohio State product ran for an incredible 228 yards on just 27 carries while punching in one touchdown.

If Wells can play like this every week, which he's certainly capable of doing, he'll have a very bright future in the NFL.

The New York Jets Are Alive

29 of 50

After losing against Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos a week ago, the New York Jets rebounded nicely with an impressive 28-24 divisional victory over the Buffalo Bills.

As the Jets improve to 6-5, they prove that there is still hope in New York and that the Jets are still alive.

Stevie Johnson Is a Moron

30 of 50

Yes, I did see Stevie Johnson's touchdown celebration that mocked Plaxico Burress by pretending to shoot himself in the football, but he's got to back up the smack that he's giving.

Johnson went onto drop two key passes in Buffalo's final drive to try and escape New York with a victory. One of those drops came in the endzone, while the other one came when he was wide open and had plenty of space around him.

Mark Sanchez Came Up Huge for the Jets

31 of 50

Wouldn't you know? Mark Sanchez can win a game for the Jets.

Sanchez came up when his team needed him the most, as he connected with Santonio Holmes with just 1:01 left in the game on a 16-yard strike. Sanchez finished Sunday's game completing less than 50 percent of his passes, but did throw four touchdowns.

Andy Dalton and A.J. Green Are Incredible

32 of 50

I absolutely love watching Andy Dalton and A.J. Green play. These two have a very bright future ahead of them.

Dalton and Green connected three times Sunday against the Cleveland Browns for 110 yards.

The Bengals Are Alive in the AFC

33 of 50

Despite losing two straight games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens, the Cincinnati Bengals bounced back with a solid 23-20 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The Bengals are now 7-4 on the season and look to make a legitimate run for the playoffs.

The Redskins Finally Come Up with a Victory

34 of 50

The Washington Redskins ended their six-game losing streak with a huge 23-17 victory in Seattle against the Seahawks.

Washington now improves to 4-7 on the season.

Marshawn Lynch Is a Beast

35 of 50

The lone bright spot on the Seattle Seahawks roster is running back Marshawn Lynch.

Against the Washington Redskins, Lynch ran for 111 yards on 24 carries and caught one pass for 20 yards, which ended up being a touchdown.

Lynch is Seattle's only form of offense.

The Oakland Raiders Are the Team to Beat in the AFC West

36 of 50

The Oakland Raiders came up with a huge victory over the Chicago Bears, 25-20, in Oakland this Sunday.

The Raiders shined in all phases of the game as they now improve to 7-4 and appear to be the team to beat in the AFC West.

The Chicago Bears Could Be Done Without Jay Cutler

37 of 50

Caleb Hanie was simply horrendous Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Hanie completed only 18 of his 36 passes for 254 yards while tossing two touchdowns, but threw three costly interceptions.

Without Jay Cutler, the Chicago Bears could be in huge trouble.

The Bears are now 7-4 on the season.

Carson Palmer Is a Winner in Oakland

38 of 50

Carson Palmer may not be lighting up the sky in Oakland, but he's put up solid numbers and is a winner with his new team.

In the team's huge victory over the Chicago Bears, Palmer completed only 56.8 percent of his passes and was picked off once, but he did accumulate 301 yards, and more importantly, escaped with a victory.

Just win, baby.

The New England Patriots Are the Team to Beat in the AFC

39 of 50

The New England Patriots have now won three in a row after destroying the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-20. Granted, two of New England's wins have come against the Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, but they simply rolled over them and appear to be on a hot streak moving forward.

With Tom Brady playing at the level that he's at right now, the Patriots are without a doubt the team to beat in the AFC.

Philadelphia's Season Is over

40 of 50

The self-proclaimed "Dream Team" has now dropped to 4-7 after their pitiful performance against the New England Patriots.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Philadelphia Eagles season is over. There is no chance that they will make the playoffs in 2011.

Andy Reid Could Be Done in Philly

41 of 50

By the end of the season, Andy Reid will either retire or he will be fired. I guarantee that.

Reid's time in Philadelphia is all but over.

Tom Brady Is White Hot

42 of 50

Can anyone stop Tom Brady right now? I mean, he's playing incredible.

Brady is currently white hot after his phenomenal performance against the Philadelphia Eagles, as he passed for 361 yards and three touchdowns all while completing 24 of his 34 passes—definitely not a bad day for the reigning NFL MVP.

LeSean McCoy Can Be Shut Down

43 of 50

LeSean McCoy is arguably the NFL's most dynamic running back, but the New England Patriots found a way to shut him down this past weekend—can you believe that? The Patriots defense contained McCoy.

In the loss, McCoy ran for only 31 yards on just 10 carries while reeling in four passes for just 40 yards.

Wes Welker Is the NFL's Top Wide Receiver

44 of 50

Debate it all you want, but Wes Welker is the NFL's top wide receiver.

In New England's 38-20 beating of the Eagles, Welker snagged eight passes for a stellar 115 yards while scoring two touchdowns.

How is Welker not the best receiver in the game? Seriously, answer that question if you disagree with me.

It's Tebow Time in Denver

45 of 50

Tim Tebow may not have scored the game-winning touchdown or kicked the game-winning field goal to knock off the San Diego Chargers, but he simply put his team in position to win.

It's time to start believing in Tebow.

It's Tebow Time!

Norv Turner Should Be Fired

46 of 50

The San Diego Chargers need to fire Norv Turner. There is no question about it. His time in San Diego is done.

The Chargers are now 4-7 after they were "Tebowed," and now have lost a pitiful six games in a row. That is just pathetic.

Tim Tebow Is a Quarterback and the Running Back

47 of 50

This is hard to believe, but Tim Tebow had 22 rushing attempts Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, which is the most by a quarterback in NFL history. How incredible is that?

I'm telling you, the Broncos need to bring back the Singe Wing offense, an offense with no true quarterback, just a bunch of running backs that can happen to throw the ball if necessary.

Tebowing Is Now a Hobby of Mine

48 of 50

I am a Tim Tebow believer, and I am also someone that finds Tebowing rather enjoyable. It's now a hobby of mine

But on a serious note, the Broncos are now 5-1 with Tebow as their starter and can now actually make a run for the AFC West title.

Pittsburgh's Struggles Against KC Is Worrisome

49 of 50

It's definitely alarming that the Pittsburgh Steelers struggled to beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. Remember, this is a Chiefs team that was blown out by the New England Patriots a week ago, 34-3, but the Steelers only managed to walk away with a 13-9 victory.

However, I guess a win is a win. The Steelers are now 8-3 on the season.

Tyler Palko Isn't That Bad of a Quarterback

50 of 50

After being embarrassed on Monday night a week ago, Tyler Palko bounced back and played well for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Palko completed 64.3 percent of his passes for 167 yards, but was picked off three times. If you take away his three interceptions, Palko actually did not play that terrible; he actually showed promising signs moving forward.
