Michael Vick Injury: Updates on Eagles Star's Week 12 Status and Fantasy Value

Donald WoodNov 21, 2011

After breaking his ribs against the Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick missed the team’s 17-10 victory over the New York Giants.

This is not the first injury the star has suffered this season, missing time with a concussion and damage to his hand from bending his fingers back on a pass.

Vick was replaced in Sunday’s game by veteran Vince Young. In his first start since halfway through 2010 with the Tennessee Titans, Young looked bad to start, but calmed his nerves and gained his composure.

UPDATE: Sunday, Nov. 27 at 3:30 p.m. EDT by Adam Wells

The news that we have all known for a few days was made official moments ago: The Philadelphia Eagles have officially declared Michael Vick out for this week's game against New England.

According to Rotoworld, Vick's ribs are not at a point where he can do much and will have to sit out this week.

Vick is just the tip of the iceberg for the Eagles, who will also be without Jeremy Maclin and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in this game. The black cloud hovering over Philadelphia actually seems to be getting darker by the day.

UPDATE: Saturday, Nov. 26, 10:30 a.m. ET by Donald Wood

Philadelphia Eagles fans and fantasy owners will have to go into this weekend knowing that Michael Vick will not be the starter for the team on Sunday. That honor is still Vince Young’s while Vick is on the mend.

Eagles’ fans have been fed up with their starting quarterback, but the blame falls heavily on the offensive line. Fantasy owners on the other hand have no one to blame but themselves for taking Michael Vick in the first round.

UPDATE: Friday, Nov. 25 at 12:50 p.m. EDT by Mike Chiari

When a player fails to practice on Friday of a week with a Sunday game, it's usually a tell-tale sign that the player won't suit up in that particular week. That is especially true if the player hadn't practiced any of the days previous. That appears to be the case with Michael Vick, according to Eagles beat reporter Tim McManus.

Vick may still try to throw on the side in order to work out his rib injury, but it seems more and more likely that Vince Young will start against the Patriots after taking all the first-team reps this week.

UPDATE: Friday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. EDT by Mike Chiari

According to DelawareOnline.com, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick continues to sit out practice, but he is optimistic he may be able to play against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

"

I think I might be able to pull it out, Vick said. Hopefully, I can continue to get better each and every day in the training room and I've got a couple more days, so I'm praying as hard as I can.

"

Vick has been throwing on the side and has been encouraged by the results, but backup Vince Young has continued to take the first-team reps in practice. If Vick can go, then he is a top-notch fantasy start against New England's porous secondary, but Young would be a nice sleeper if he is forced into action yet again.

Update: Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 12:45 p.m. EDT by Alex Kay

Michael Vick is reportedly not practicing today according to the Associated Press.

His broken ribs are still ailing and his status is up in the air for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Vince Young would fill in again if necessary.

UPDATE: Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1:55 p.m. EDT by Mike Chiari

There is no update with regards to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick's availability for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, but there is some news regarding his regimen for the week.

Vick hasn't attempted to throw since breaking his ribs, but he will try to do just that on Tuesday, according to BuzzonBroad.com. It doesn't mean anything one way or the other with regards to his status, but if he comes away from the session feeling good, it should bode well for his prospects.

UPDATE: Monday, Nov. 21, 1:45 p.m. EST by Donald Wood

The Philadelphia Eagles are facing a huge question at quarterback this week. This quandary couldn’t have come at a worse time, with the New England Patriots next on the docket.

Michael Vick was in the Eagles facilities Monday getting treatment in preparation for a possible start Sunday, according to Eagles beat reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer Jeff McLane:

While fantasy owners of Michael Vick have been living on the edge all season, this has to be the time you have consistency at quarterback. The playoffs are right at your feet. Now may be the time to try and trade Michael Vick or at least acquire a serious backup.

Young ended up with 258 yards passing with two touchdowns. While the three interceptions are scary, it’s to be expected from a player that hasn’t started this season.

Bobby Big Wheel had a very funny tweet on the comparisons of Vick to Vince Young:

With an upcoming game against the New England Patriots, it will be interesting to see how Eagles head coach Andy Reid plays this situation.

As long as Vick is healthy, he is the starter, according to Eagles beat writer for the Allentown Morning Call Nick Fierro:
