WWE Survivor Series 2011: Wade Barrett's Main Event Push Will Finally Begin

Adam WellsNov 20, 2011

Lost in the shuffle of the hoopla surrounding the main event tag-team match is the number of potential storylines that can come out of the 10-man Survivor Series elimination match. The biggest one is the evolution of Wade Barrett in his feud with Randy Orton

But before we get ahead of ourselves, there is one thing that Barrett must do in this match to heat things up: pin Orton.

Barrett's stop-and-start push in WWE has clearly started again. He has been doing solid work on the microphone for the last few months, and his work in the ring has really improved.

SmackDown is in desperate need for top stars, and Orton needs someone to work a program with for the foreseeable future, so why not give Barrett the rub in this match?

The fact that this event will be the second-biggest show of the year means that more eyeballs will be fixed on their television sets, and that means it will be easier to make someone a star.

Barrett is clearly in good standing with the creative team or else he wouldn't be leading a team and getting a feud with Orton. But this has to be seen as the beginning of the story and not the end. It sounds obvious, but with the WWE creative team, we know that the obvious solution rarely happens.

When Barrett first came into the spotlight last year, he was thrown into a feud with John Cena and held his own despite being green in the ring and booked to look like a dork.

Now, a year later, Barrett is ready to take on the top star on SmackDown and can hold his own both in the ring and on the microphone. But he needs to be put in a position where he looks like a main event worker.

Some of that burden falls on Barrett; he has to stand toe-to-toe with Orton and not look overwhelmed. But most of it depends on how he is booked, and that is where the doubts creep in.

Barrett deserves to go over in this match because he has proven himself time and again, and Orton can get a lot of mileage out of Barrett in a feud.

So when all the smoke is cleared, all the dust has settled and all the eliminations have occurred, it will be Barrett standing tall over Orton's prone body.
