WWE Survivor Series: Why Team Barrett Will Beat Team Orton

Matthew HemphillNov 18, 2011

Looking at the lineup for both of the teams that have been made for Survivor Series, it's easy to see which team has the stronger lineup.

Team Orton easily has the edge when it comes to how they have been booked in the WWE.

Sheamus has been booked as a strong face.

Sin Cara is still in the midst of a push, though it has lost some steam.

Mason Ryan may be as green as grass, but he has the build that Vince McMahon loves, and so he has been pushed heavily as of late.

And Randy Orton is the second strongest booked wrestler in the WWE outside of John Cena.

Other than Kofi Kingston, who was getting a push as a tag team wrestler before his partner, Evan Bourne, got popped by the WWE wellness policy and sent home for a month, everyone on Team Orton is getting a strong push.

Compare it to those on Team Barrett.

Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler have both been booked strongly, but not so much that they haven't cleanly lost recent matches.

Jack Swagger seems to be stuck at mid-card level and is swapping wins with losses and Hunico is coming off as Sin Cara's foil for their feud instead of a legitimate rival.

The only person who has been given any real strength lately is Barrett himself.

Odds do not look good for Team Barrett and it seems like Team Orton is a lock to win at the pay-per-view on Sunday.

But Team Barrett will triumph.

The reason why is that even though the faces are all booked strongly, the heels on Team Barrett have all been booked in ways that make them crafty and willing to rely on each other.

They also have better leadership.

Wade Barrett has lead two different stables in the WWE, and even though Orton has been part of a few stables and a tag team, he has never been the true leader.

That leadership will come into play as Barrett marshals his forces in the ring and uses those that aren't tagged in to distract and damage their opponents.

And that gets to the second point.  Barrett and his team are willing to fight dirty.  Though sometimes faces can get away with a few cheap tactics, those are mostly used by the "bad guys" to get the crowds to hate them and to differentiate the two sides.

Expect Barrett and his team to do just that and do it throughout the entire match.

The last part has to do with team dynamics.  Even with all five members of Barrett's team working together, it would be difficult to beat Sheamus, Ryan and Orton.

All three men are booked as monsters and getting rid of even one of them would be almost impossible.  Except that the point of a team match is to work together as a group.

The heels are booked as being weaker but that means that they are willing to rely on each other more to get the job done.

Most of the faces are booked so strongly that their characters may not think to try and get help from their teammates.  After all, a character like Ryan or Sheamus might see trying to get out of the fight as weakness.

The wrestlers on Team Barrett wouldn't have such qualms, as they know they are weaker.

But they could work together and out-think Team Orton.

And that is completely possible.

No doubt the WWE will make the match a close one and Team Barrett will be given all it can handle, but if they play their cards right, they will do what they're supposed to against Team Orton.

Survive them.
