The Rock Survivor Series: The Great One Won't Solve WWE's Problems

Adam WellsNov 18, 2011

As great as The Rock is, he is not going to be enough to save the WWE creative team from itself. Survivor Series is being built solely around his appearance on the show, but even that will not be enough to turn the current product around.

WWE has been terrible for most of this year. There have been a few moments when it seemed like the decision makers had figured things out, or took a holiday and let someone else do the booking, but overall, this has been one of the worst years in recent memory.

You would think that The Rock's first match back would be a HUGE deal, one that the company could rally around and infuse all the storylines with a kinetic energy that would make this an event on par with a WrestleMania.

Instead, we got one of the worst builds for a major show in a long time. No match was made to feel special, The Rock went out on Raw and was more concerned with plugging Twitter than building the tag team match between himself and Cena against The Miz and R-Truth.

The only interest that anyone has in that match is what happens at the end, with either Rock screwing Cena or vice versa. That is not a good sign for a show that should be one of the most talked about of the year.

The Rock's first match in seven years should be a special event. It should be promoted at the same level of any WrestleMania main event because he is that much of a drawing card; his presence alone got this year's 'Mania over 1 million pay-per-view buys.

But WWE has completely killed Rock's return by focusing more on plugging what is trending on some social media website than getting people interested in a pay-per-view that actually has a direct reflection on the amount of money that they make.

Survivor Series is going to do good business just because The Rock is on the show, but it is not going to do anywhere close to as well as it should have done because the WWE's creative team and Vince McMahon have no idea how to build a show anymore.

It is sad because The Rock deserved better, and the fans expected more from this show.
