The Craziest Fan Anthem for Every NFL Team

Gordon BlockNov 15, 2011

Fandom for an NFL team is a strange type of relationship, and it can make otherwise normal people do the craziest of things. Some paint their faces, while others stock up on their team’s gear.

Some fans put their fandom to music.

While some attempts can fire up a fanbase (see Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow”), others find their efforts fall flat.

This list will document these less than stellar attempts, along with some of the most off the wall musical tributes you'll find anywhere on the Internet.

While the music in this list goes in a variety of (bizarre) directions, there was only one rule in compiling this list: no remixes of “Black and Yellow.”

While the song has seen versions for nearly every pro, college and high school team, 99 percent of them are awful and don’t deserve special recognition. Otherwise, all raps, tributes and fight songs are very much fair game.

Here is the wackiest fan anthem for each NFL team.

Arizona Cardinals: "Arizona Cardinals Theme Song"

1 of 32

Can you believe the group Golden Cousins made this video for only $20? Me personally...I think they may have been overcharged.

Atlanta Falcons: "Atlanta"

2 of 32

The Atlanta Falcons tribute song may not be (all that) terrible, but this is yet another video with a questionable use of green screen.

After wading through the obnoxious sliding PowerPoint background, I barely had any energy to get through the song at all.

Baltimore Ravens: "Ravenation"

3 of 32

I was pleasantly surprised to find the fan songs for the Baltimore Ravens were pretty solid. If they weren't the best tracks, then at the very least the production values were sound.

This song was frankly not too bad either, but given its goofy combo word title and Prince reference, this was an easy call to make.

Buffalo Bills: "New Buffalo Bills Song"

4 of 32

There are two reasons this fan video stands out.

1) In this short song, this fan calls on his team to win the Super Bowl, then to win 100 Super Bowls. Unfortunately, only 45 have been played. That goal may take a while.

2) What would you do if you had a time machine? For this fan, his priorities for time machine usage are clearly set:

A) Reverse the Bills' four Super Bowl losses.

B) Kill Adolf Hitler (only if there's time).

Honorable mention: This fan, in a six-minute-long epic, breaks down his love of the Buffalo Bills. In addition to detailing the pains of his fandom, he also expresses his sincere desire to high-five Jim Kelly.

Carolina Panthers: "Carolina Panthers Official Fight Song"

5 of 32

Without talking about the music of this Carolina Panthers tribute  at all, I have a few questions.

1) The individual on the right is seen in a shirt for what appears to be the Atlanta Braves.

2) Why use the burnout effect the entire video?

These confusing visuals do little to encourage me to listen to what truly is a bizarre shout-out to the struggling 2-7 Panthers.

Chicago Bears: "Chicago Bears No. 1 Fan Rap by Karl Armstrong"

6 of 32

I appreciate quality lyrics in the hip-hop I listen to, and this 1# (sic) fan rap for the Chicago Bears by the Karl Armstrong is a real treat. Check these big lyrics near the start of the song:

"Let me tell you how I feel / I'm a true Bears fan / that's for real / Karl is my name / and you know that's true..."

Clearly, we're listening to some real next-level stuff.

Cincinnati Bengals: "Love the Way You Lie Mike Brown"

7 of 32

It's easy to forget that less than a month and a half ago, when the Cincinnati Bengals weren't legitimate contenders, this song rant about owner/GM Mike Brown rang true for many fans. However, now that the Bengals are legitimate playoff contenders, most fans will be singing his praises.

Brown hasn't changed. It may just be a case of fans loving to lie to themselves.

Cleveland Browns: "This Song Is for Cleveland"

8 of 32

It's not easy to be a fan of the Cleveland Browns (or any of the city's teams), but this song is a folksy and upbeat calling for the complete clearing of house.

While this song is clearly dated (Eric Mangini has been replaced as head coach), it's clear this song will have plenty of staying power as the team continues to struggle.

Dallas Cowboys: "Dallas Cowboys Chant Fight Song"

9 of 32

What is this? Really...what is this man doing? I don't know. I don't want to know.

BYAHH!!!

Denver Broncos: "Super Fans (Tim Tebow Song)"

10 of 32

If you hate Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, you may despise that this song is the rallying call for your team this season.

Even if you do like Tebow, you still may find this song a little over the top.

Detroit Lions: "Detroit Lions Song"

11 of 32

The only way you'll get more crap for being a Detroit Lions fan is if you make a lousy tribute song, like this one, to the Detroit Lions.

Green Bay Packers: "Cheese and Packers"

12 of 32

This Green Bay Packers fan's heart may be in the right place, but clearly his lyrics were far from it.

A note for all: Rapping is very difficult. If you're not ready to work and try to improve, then please leave it to the professionals.

Houston Texans: "Football Time in Houston"

13 of 32

With the firing of Hank Williams Jr. from Monday Night Football...this may be the next guy they hire. In terms of covering all generic bases of rock, country and Houston Texans football, this song nails it completely.

Indianapolis Colts: "Scream Ya Necks Off (Go Horse)!"

14 of 32

Given the recent injury woes of franchise quarterback Peyton Manning, one can only assume that he may have had this song on repeat for a little too long.

Jacksonville Jaguars: "We Are Jaguars Song"

15 of 32

While the professionals at Visionary Studios clearly had big goals with their pump-up song, I can't help but feel moved for the wrong reasons. The energy seems completely forced, and that may be a direct result of the team's lousy play.

Either way, this video will be a solid reminder that this team existed after it jets off to be the new team in Los Angeles.

Kansas City Chiefs: "Where I Live (KC)"

16 of 32

Warning: This video's content may not be safe for work.

I was a little disappointed that this was the only video I could find for the team, because it clearly does its fans a disservice.

After watching a casual game of pitch and catch in the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium, all that can be learned from this video is that Kansas City is not a great place to live.

This is far from the best representation of the team and the area.

Miami Dolphins: "Miami Dolphins Song"

17 of 32

While there's nothing wrong with using a little guitar to power up a team anthem, this Miami Dolphins song seems to go in the wrong direction. While other songs go for a more up-tempo vibe, this song decidedly keeps itself as low-key as possible.

Unfortunately, one of the few people who might appreciate a song like this, running back Ricky Williams, now plays for the Baltimore Ravens.

Honorable mention: This video cannot be touched.

Minnesota Vikings: "Mister Christian (This Ponder Kid)"

18 of 32

This spin-off of Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" goes in an interesting direction in praising Minnesota Vikings rookie Christian Ponder.

Without mentioning the long odds for his success this season (the Vikings are a lousy team), the song puts a lot of the pressure for the team to win on him.

Unfortunately, the song has not appeared to inspire an improvement in play. The team was ravaged Monday night by the Green Bay Packers 45-7.

New England Patriots: "New England Patriots Rap"

19 of 32

This New England Patriots tribute rap also has its heart in the right place, but it is again flawed.

Last time I checked, rhyming New England with New England is not a great way to keep a song going.

Perhaps this rapper should have spent more time perfecting his delivery instead of picking out a team-gear outfit.

PATRIOTS!

New Orleans Saints: "Saints Song!!!"

20 of 32

Sometimes it's fun to cheer your team until you "can't breathe no more." This young New Orleans Saints fan has a lot to teach all of us.

New York Giants: "Best New York Giants Song"

21 of 32

This is a painful example of what happens when a fan anthem goes horribly wrong. This New York Giants tribute errs in trying to do too much with its lyrics.

In addition to lauding the team for its great play and chastising its opponents, the song tries to crack jokes and cement the team's backstory as a blue-collar squad.

Clearly, less would have been much more.

New York Jets: "Do the Mark Sanchez"

22 of 32

I was very disappointed that this dance inspired by New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was not to first throw an interception and then take off your shirt for the nearest GQ camera.

Oakland Raiders: "Raiders Game"

23 of 32

Clearly, there's nothing like being at an Oakland Raiders game. Hanging with friends, enjoying some good food and getting ready for the game is a lot of fun.

It's good that the fans have found enjoyment at the pregame tailgate, as the team's games the past few weeks have been an up-and-down experience.

While quarterback Carson Palmer has improved dramatically, it's tough to say how the team will fare in the surprisingly tight AFC West.

Philadelphia Eagles: "Gonna Be Hard To Shut Us Down"

24 of 32

This song's title, "Gonna Be Hard To Shut Us Down," is a bit of a misnomer. Given the Philadelphia Eagles' 3-6 record (which includes five blown fourth-quarter leads), it would appear the team is quite stoppable after all.

Pittsburgh Steelers: "Black Gold and Silver (Lombardi Baby)"

25 of 32

Oy yoi yoi...this is uncomfortable to watch. While one has to give credit to this singer for adding to the popular "Black and Yellow" song, this tribute to the Pittsburgh Steelers may not be the best way of doing that.

San Diego Chargers: "Chargers Fight Song"

26 of 32

This version of the San Diego Chargers fight song has a confused identity, as clearly it is much more of a love song than a fight song.

Dim the lights, spark up the fireplace...it's clearly time for some Chargers football.

San Francisco 49ers: "The Niners Will Return (Harbaugh!)"

27 of 32

At 8-1, the surprise team of the 2011 season so far has been the San Francisco 49ers. Few people deserve more credit for the turnaround than head coach Jim Harbaugh, and fortunately this tribute song was ready to go.

HARBAUGH!

Honorable Mention: "49ers Rap," featuring several 49ers players, most notably running back Roger Craig and wide receiver Jerry Rice. They came with one message: They were the team of the 1980s, and they came to play.

Seattle Seahawks: "I Am Matt Hasselbeck!"

28 of 32

Few people would think to switch out Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" for Hasselbeck, but this song went there. Mission accomplished!

St. Louis Rams: "The Fan's Overture"

29 of 32

Writing the music for a fan anthem is difficult, but when done right it can engage a variety of emotions. This St. Louis Rams fan video does that in the worst way.

Should I feel energized? Terrified? Embarrassed?

All signs say I should go, go, go...to the next video.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: "Baby We Believe"

30 of 32

It may be easy to knock this video's production values or unfocused musical number, but you have to give this Tampa Bay Buccaneers anthem one big point of positive feedback: It is very simple.

Surprisingly, many attempted fan anthems overthink themselves, creating a confusing combination that's not fun for anybody.

Tennessee Titans: "VY Will Never Die"

31 of 32

It may be true that then-Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young may never die, but he's certainly been down and out.

Despite a healthy winning percentage, he never won over the team's management and was frequently on and off the team's bench.

Now with the Philadelphia Eagles, Young will have one final chance to show he deserves a place in the NFL, as he will most likely fill in for starter Michael Vick.

Washington Redskins: "Washington Redskins 2011 Freestyle"

32 of 32

Not everybody has to be a freestyle king. Freestyling is difficult, and most artists would really be better served to pen a few bars ahead of time.

In this case, rapper Numbers may have wanted to take a couple stabs at penning a competent 16 to pay tribute to the Washington Redskins.

Like the Skins offense, the freestyle was unfocused, a little too cocky and poorly planned out.

Honorable Mention: This tribute from the team to its fans.
