One Player from Each NFL Team Who Didn't Show Up in Week 10
Week 10 is in the books for the 2011 season. Every week, we are caught by surprise when we see certain teams and players disappoint us when we expected better, even for teams who win.
In this slideshow, I will select 32 players, one from each team, who were nowhere to be found in Week 10.
Let me know your thoughts.
Arizona Cardinals: Jay Feely
1 of 32Jay Feely missed two field goals against the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday.
Feely should been thankful that he was playing a team that had struggled all season on offense. Had the Eagles scored one more touchdown, those missed field goals would have came back to haunt Feely.
Atlanta Falcons: Matt Bryant
2 of 32So far, I am picking on kickers. But that will end soon.
This was hard to pick because it seemed like the Falcons played a great game against the New Orleans Saints. The worst moment had to have been when Matt Bryant missed only one of four field goal attempts.
Bryant missed a 41-yard field goal right before halftime, which could have prevented an overtime period and given the Falcons a victory. A tough loss by the Falcons, who seemed to have a good game on all three phases. One missed field goal set them back.
Baltimore Ravens: David Webb
3 of 32This is one of those games that makes players, like David Webb, wish he could do over again.
Webb fumbled twice in this game, and both fumbles were recovered by Seattle. The fumbles, as well as an interception thrown, equaling three giveaways, ended up costing the Ravens a big loss as they were stunned by the Seahawks, 22-17.
Buffalo Bills: Ryan Fitzpatrick
4 of 32You hate to pick the quarterback as the player who didn't show up, but there is a reason the Dallas Cowboys got off to a fast start and never looked back.
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw only one touchdown pass and three interceptions against the Cowboys. Fitzpatrick was unable to find a break and get his offense going in this game.
Ever since Fitzpatrick signed his six-year contract worth $59 million, Fitzpatrick has led his team to a 1-2 record and has thrown four touchdown passes and six interceptions.
Carolina Panthers: Steve Smith
5 of 32Steve Smith got off to a hot start to the season as he caught two touchdown passes from Cam Newton on opening week. Since then, Smith has declined.
This week against the Tennessee Titans, Smith caught five passes for 33 yards. Newton targeted two other pass-catchers more than Smith while Smith finished third on the team in receiving yards.
Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler
6 of 32A lot of people have mentioned Tim Tebow leading his Denver Broncos to victory after completing only two passes. Jay Cutler had a similar day in the passing game, but just slightly better.
Cutler was 9-of-19 passing and did not throw a touchdown pass against the Detroit Lions.
I guess on a day where Devin Hester takes over, there is no need to do a whole lot on offense.
Cincinatti Bengals: Cedric Benson
7 of 32Cedric Benson has been close to consistent this season. He struggled this past week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Benson carried the ball 15 times for 57 yards for a 3.8 yard-per-carry average and never found the end zone.
Cleveland Browns: Ryan Pontbriand
8 of 32Ryan Pontbriand is known as one of the best long-snappers in the game today. But he fell flat when it mattered the most.
Phil Dawson was four-of-four on the day in his field goal kicks against the St. Louis Rams and was looking to go perfect with five kicks. However, Pontbriand's snap was short and it created a miss that went wide left.
The potential game-winning field goal was a 22-yard attempt, which is two yards longer than an extra point.
Dallas Cowboys: Anthony Spencer
9 of 32This is another difficult one to pick out since the entire Dallas Cowboys team played a role in their dominating victory over the Buffalo Bills.
On the season, Anthony Spencer has four sacks and two forced fumbles. However, he was a non-factor in helping the Cowboys earn this big victory.
Denver Broncos: Eddie Royal
10 of 32After lighting up the Oakland Raiders the previous week, Eddie Royal turned into a non-factor against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Denver Broncos used Royal more in the triple-threat option with Tim Tebow. Royal had no catches in the game and was never targeted, despite Tebow only passing the ball eight times.
Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford
11 of 32No quarterback had a worse week than Matthew Stafford did.
Stafford did not throw a touchdown pass until there was five minutes remaining in the game, which at that point, the Chicago Bears had already sealed the win.
Stafford was 33-of-63 passing and threw four interceptions to the Bears relentless defense.
Green Bay Packers: Ryan Grant
12 of 32It is hard to pick a player on the Green Bay Packers after a great game like that. In the end, you have to give it to Ryan Grant, who is struggling in his comeback year.
While most of the Packers played well to help remain undefeated, Grant has done very little to contribute to Green Bay's success.
Each week, it is not expected, but hoped that Grant can have a big game and help the Packers have a strong ground game.
Houston Texans: Jason Allen
13 of 32Another tough one here, as the Houston Texans handed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with ease.
If anyone, Jason Allen did not do a lot to help the Texans in this game. Allen has three interceptions on the season, but was not part of the pick parade that the Texans defense had.
Indianapolis Colts: Reggie Wayne
14 of 32Who would have thought that a winless team would define how valuable Peyton Manning is? The league might need to give the MVP award to Manning for not playing this season.
Reggie Wayne would certainly love to have Manning back. However, that doesn't give him a valid reason to not do well with another quarterback, as he has had some success with Curtis Painter under center this year.
Wayne only had three catches for 13 yards in Sunday's 17-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, which seemed like the Colts had a chance to win going into it.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Dwight Lowery
15 of 32Dwight Lowery's defensive teammates got it done instead of him.
While he is quietly one of the best defensive players on the team, Lowery did not get an interception this past week. He has two picks and one sack for the Jaguars and had hoped for a better game against a struggling Curtis Painter.
Kansas City Chiefs: Tamba Hali
16 of 32Tamba Hali is one of the best pass rushers in the game. Hali usually has no problem getting through some of the best offensive tackles in the game. However, Hali has struggled lately.
This week, it was Ryan Clady who had the best of him and kept him silent all day long.
Hali, who led the AFC in sacks in 2010, has six of Kansas City's nine sacks this season.
Miami Dolphins: Daniel Thomas
17 of 32This has not been the rookie season Daniel Thomas outlined for himself this year.
Thomas had an opportunity to bounce back against an 18th-ranked rush defense. But Thomas' 3.6 yard-per-carry average continued to be exposed in this game. Thomas ran the ball 17 times and gained 42 yards for a 2.5 yard-per-carry average.
Minnesota Vikings: Cedric Griffin
18 of 32Cedric Griffin and his teammates at defensive back did not have a good game Monday night against Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers connected with his receivers in the end zone four times, two of them to Jordy Nelson. Griffin tried to catch up to Nelson before he could reach the end zone, but Nelson stiff-armed him and gave the Packers a 24-0 lead.
New England Patriots: BenJarvus Green-Ellis
19 of 32BenJarvus Green-Ellis has played well this season and tends to do well against the New York Jets.
However, Green-Ellis was stomped on by the Jets on Sunday Night Football. He carried the ball eight times for eight yards. Do the easy math, and that is one yard for each rush.
New Orleans Saints: Will Smith
20 of 32Will Smith was nowhere to be found this past week against the Atlanta Falcons.
Smith only had one tackle and could not apply any pressure on Matt Ryan. Smith is usually one of the more consistent defensive ends in the league, but fell flat on Sunday, individually.
New York Giants: Corey Webster
21 of 32In a game where only field goals were exchanged in the first half, both defenses were under pressure to continue playing hard and not allow the opposing team to score a touchdown.
Corey Webster, who has four interceptions on the season, let Michael Crabtree go by him as he caught the first touchdown of the game in the third quarter, which eventually allowed the San Francisco 49ers to win.
New York Jets: Nick Folk
22 of 32Nick Folk threw away an early lead on Sunday Night Football against the New England Patriots. Folk choked on a 24-yard field goal attempt, which could have given the New York Jets the early lead and some momentum.
The Patriots themselves struggled getting the ball into the end zone. Had Folk made the kick, the Jets might have came away with some swagger and momentum on their next drive and turned the tables against the Patriots.
Oakland Raiders: Jacoby Ford
23 of 32Carson Palmer enjoyed his first victory as an Oakland Raider, but did not see much of Jacoby Ford.
Ford only caught one pass for 41 yards, but was not seen after that. Denarius Moore and Michael Bush were more active in the receiving game than Ford this past week against the San Diego Chargers.
Philadelphia Eagles: Mike Vick
24 of 32Mike Vick was expected to be the leader of a dream team, but he has been part of the main cause that the Eagles have been a let down.
Vick gained 207 total yards against the Cardinals on the ground and through the air and was picked off twice.
Had Vick been positively consistent in this game, they could have turned the tables and picked up a win over the Cardinals.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Hines Ward
25 of 32This one is a no-brainer. Hines Ward has been one of the best receivers to ever play the game, but was limited in his success this past Sunday.
Having caught at least three passes in all of the wins put together by the Steelers, Ward only caught one pass in this game for 10 yards.
Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace were targeted more by Ben Roethlisberger.
San Diego Chargers: Vincent Jackson
26 of 32Vincent Jackson was limited to one catch for 22 yards on Thursday night against the Oakland Raiders.
He let down the team in the fourth quarter when Philip Rivers threw a pass to the end zone while the Chargers were down by seven. Although there were a pair of Raiders in the area, Jackson made little effort to make the catch.
Matt Giordano came away with the easy interception as the Raiders went on to win.
San Francisco 49ers: Braylon Edwards
27 of 32Braylon Edwards only caught three passes and was targeted six times in the game by Alex Smith.
Edwards was not able to help the 49ers get off to a hot start, resulting in having no touchdowns in the first half.
Seattle Seahawks: Doug Baldwin
28 of 32Tarvaris Jackson has been able to find Doug Baldwin a few times this year.
However, in a close game, Baldwin only had one big catch for 50 yards. Outside of his 50-yard reception, he did not catch a pass on a day where Jackson was comfortable and was able to move the ball on offense.
St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford
29 of 32This isn't the sophomore year anyone expected from Sam Bradford.
While Bradford did lead the St. Louis Rams to victory over the Cleveland Browns, Bradford made it more challenging than it needed to be. Bradford was 15-of-25 passing for 155 yards, along with one touchdown pass and one interception.
Had the Browns executed a perfect snap in the fourth quarter, this game would have ended differently.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Josh Freeman
30 of 32Josh Freeman is having a very disappointing season, and it carried over to this week.
Freeman completed only 15-of-33 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown pass and three interceptions. Freeman was also sacked four times by the Houston Texans defense.
Freeman's struggles set the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in this game as it allowed the Texans to cruise by in a blowout.
Tennessee Titans: Michael Griffin
31 of 32Despite the win, Michael Griffin played a small part in helping the Tennessee Titans pick up a victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Griffin was beat a couple of times, but it wasn't that bad. It's just that somebody had to be mentioned.
Washington Redskins: Brian Orakpo
32 of 32As one of the young and upcoming pass rushers in the league, Brian Orakpo did not bring his A-game this past week against the Miami Dolphins.
Matt Moore struggled for the Dolphins, but they were able to move forward and keep Orakpo silent all day long as it allowed them to pick up their second consecutive victory of the season after being winless prior to that.
