NBA Lockout: Players Must Not Be Intimidated by Stern Cancelling More Games
David Stern cancelled more games last night in a move that would keep the season from starting until mid-December, if it ever does even get off the ground.
At this point, I don’t think it will.
That’s why the players need to stick together and agree not to take these lousy deals being floated to them by the commissioner’s office by way of the owners.
The players have to realize that they are going to have to wait this out and win an uphill battle of attrition that is stacked in the owners’ favor if they want to get a big piece of the basketball related income.
The owners are a small group of men with more money than most people can ever dream of, while the players are relatively well off, but there are many more and they comparably have a lot less.
They also have almost no other streams of revenue collectively as a group, while the owners usually have business ventures on the side to continue to support them.
This is why the players need to end the lockout sooner than later but also must not jump at the first deals given to them because the owners know they will get desperate.
It is a difficult situation for the players and they must strike a balance between standing up for what they feel they deserve and taking the best offer they can get.
Let commissioner Stern cancel more games, though, as this isn’t going to affect anything.
This only hurts the fans and the league’s public relations with them.
As a huge NBA fan, I hate what David Stern is doing during this lockout and it makes me side with the players even more.
Cancelling games instead of spending more time working on a new CBA is not a good use of time, and it is the reason why we are going to have a shortened, if any, basketball season this year.
