WWE Divas: Why Eve Will Turn on Kelly Kelly

Sharon GlencrossNov 9, 2011

Former diva search winner Eve Torres has had a firmly established on-screen friendship with Kelly Kelly on Raw for several months now.

Aside from genuinely appearing to like each other and get along—no minor thing in the catty women's locker room—the two girls have teamed up to defend themselves against the newly formed “Divas of Doom” team formed by the disgruntled Natalya and Beth Phoenix, who are systematically attempting to eradicate WWE's Divas division of the models that they think are ruining women's wrestling (both Kelly and Eve have modelling and acting backgrounds).

Thankfully, though, Eve and Kelly's strong alliance has allowed them to get the upper hand on their far stronger and powerful foes on more than one occasion. Notably, on Monday’s Raw when she, along with Alicia Fox, came out to rescue Kelly from an almost certain beatdown from the “Divas of Doom” during her big Maxim cover unveiling. Make no mistake about it—these girls stick together. Interestingly, Kelly and Eve might be the only team in wrestling that are actually getting along right now.

But, this being wrestling of course, it is obvious it can't last. Come on. You think anyone watches WWE to see folks get along? What nonsense. And, judging by recent developments, it seems the long over-looked Eve might be the one to snap and cast aside Kelly on route to the top.

For one thing, Eve could grow tired of playing second fiddle to Kelly, as she has over the past few months and branch out of her own. Indeed, prior to her title match at Vengeance, she had been relegated to the role of sidekick and was often stuck in the background, a huge waste of her considerable talents.

Many have noted that Eve, who had an extensive sports and dancing background prior to entering the diva search contest, in addition to all her modelling and acting work, is actually a far more polished and smooth performer than Kelly, who still struggles with the in-ring basics, even though the former bikini model has been the recipient of a far bigger push on Raw and pay-per-views.

Her recent attempts to wrest the WWE from Phoenix are a strong indicator of her ambition beyond tag-teaming. And in order to fully cut ties and establish herself as a singles wrestler and step out of Kelly's shadow, she may turn on her friend and end their association for good. Maybe even violently (this is wrestling after all).

It would surely be a shocking angle: neither Kelly, nor the fans, would see it coming. Certainly, Eve as a villain would have legitimate gripes and be a fascinating heel character. She could go on the mic and blast her former friend for her lack of wrestling talent and complain that she never got the magazines covers or mainstream attention that Kelly did, despite being a more talented performer.

It is also very possible that Eve may decide to join Natalya and Eve in the “Divas of Doom” stable, turning on Kelly in the process. Notably, Eve fell to Beth clean at the Vengeance pay-per-view and, if she is to lose again at Survivor Series (she gained another title match on last week's Raw by winning the costume battle royale match), it is very possible that the disappointment from this could lead to Eve adopting a “if you can't beat them, join them” mentality and becoming the newest member of Phoenix’s stable. Eve teaming with her former enemies would be a shocking twist that would help shake up and revitalize the women's division in WWE.
