Duke Basketball: 10 Greatest Scorers in School History

Brian MaziqueNov 9, 2011

Duke prides themselves on defense, especially during the Coach K era, but you've got to put it in the hole. The Blue Devils have had some very nice scorers in their excellent and enormously successful history. Some primarily scored from the arc, some a combination, but either way, they all got it done.

Here are the 10 best scorers in Blue Devils history.

10. Jon Scheyer

1 of 10

Scheyer could certainly shoot it. He was amazingly consistent from behind the arc. He never shot less than 36.5 percent from three. He finished his career with 2077 career points for a per game average of 14.4 points.

9. Nolan Smith

2 of 10

Nolan Smith was more than a scorer for Duke, but he did that very well too. An over 80 percent free-throw shooter, Smith really hit his stride in his junior and senior seasons.

He put up 20.4 points per game in his final year. Smith finished 1913 points and a  13.4 point per game average.

8. Kyle Singler

3 of 10

Singler scored from freshmen year to senior year. He never averaged less than 13.3 points per game. His best season was junior year, when he scored 17.7 points per game.

6. Danny Ferry

5 of 10

Ferry is a Blue Devil legend. His career started slow, he only averaged 5.9 points in his freshman season, but his scoring numbers grew every season.

Ferry scored 2155 points in his career for a 15.1 points per game average.

5. Grant Hill

6 of 10

Hill is probably the greatest player in school history. Hill did much more than just score, he rebounded, defended and controlled the ball.

Hill scored 1924 points in his career and averaged 15 points per game in his career.

4. Christian Laettner

7 of 10

Laettner made the most memorable shot in school history, possibly college basketball history. Laettner made a ton of other baskets as well.

Laettner's scoring average grew every year he was at Duke. It started at 8.9 points and peaked at 21.5 points in his senior season. He scored 2460 points in his career and averaged 16.6 points per game.

3. Johnny Dawkins

2. Jay Williams

9 of 10

Jay was an explosive scorer from the moment he arrived in Durham. Freshmen year he went for over 14 per game and he averaged 21 per game in his sophomore and junior seasons.

With lightning quickness, strength and a good shooting touch, Williams made his mark at Duke. He scored 2079 points and averaged 19.3 points per game.

1. JJ Redick

10 of 10

Redick is the Blue Devils' all-time leading scorer. He owns the highest per game average for a single season in school history with 26.8 points per game in his senior season.

Redick's scoring totals increased every year as well, but they were never lower than 15 points per game.
