10 College Basketball Freshman Debuts We Can't Wait to See

Brian MaziqueNov 8, 2011

The 2012 NBA draft is set up to be one of the strongest in recent memory. One of the biggest reasons is because of the players set up to be one-and-done.

There are point guards, power forwards and at least one center worth discussing. For that reason, these are the 10 incoming freshmen I can't wait to see debut.

Quincy Miller: Baylor

1 of 10

This superbly talented swing man can handle, score and pass with the best of them. He is teaming with last year's freshman sensation, Perry Jones, and Baylor should be a force this season.

At 6'9", with his skills, it is unlikely Miller will see a sophomore season. The most intriguing thing about his debut is that he is coming off a serious knee injury. It will be interesting to see how it and he responds.

Debut: Nov 11 at home vs Texas Southern

Dominick Pointer: St. Johns

2 of 10

It has been awhile since St. Johns had a team or marquee player to grab national attention or relevance. Pointer may accomplish both. He is the only player who we've seen already on this list.

On Monday night, Pointer made his debut at home against William & Mary. Both Pointer and St. Johns started slowly. The team rebounded, but Pointer did not. He finished with only five points, playing 25 minutes.

Myck Kabongo: Texas

3 of 10

In my opinion, Kabongo is the best pure point guard prospect potentially in the 2012 NBA draft. He has lightning quickness, great vision and he is fearless on the drive.

He will lead the Longhorns this year and he should be exciting.

Debut: Nov 13 at home vs Boston University

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: Kentucky

4 of 10

Kentucky is loaded...again and this young man is a big reason why. He has ridiculous bounce, a real commitment on the defensive end and end-to-end speed.

Imagine Shawn Marion without the fluky looking jump-shot form. There will be no waste of talent here, MKG is a thoroughbred and a workhorse.

Debut: Nov. 11 at home vs Marist

Austin Rivers: Duke

5 of 10

The son of Glenn "Doc" Rivers is headed to Duke, and he has a chance to be the most special scorer in school history. I don't mean he'll become Duke's all-time leading scorer—he'll never be there long enough for that—but if Mike Krzyzewski allows him to somewhat do his thing, Rivers can be explosive.

As a scorer, he has it all: handle, range on the jump shot, athleticism and dribble and pop ability.

Debut: Nov 12 at home vs Belmont

Brad Beal: Florida

6 of 10

A pure shooter is a rare sight to see in college basketball, especially coming in as a freshman. That is exactly what Brad Beal is, he can flat-out shoot the basketball.

He is a little undersized for the two at 6'3", but he can score. Because of his size, he may be the only one of these players who may play more than one season.

Marquis Teague: Kentucky

7 of 10

Did I mention Kentucky was loaded? Marquis is the younger brother of the Atlanta Hawks' Jeff Teague. Believe it or not, he's even more athletic and a better overall prospect.

He is a more natural point guard, though he does have an ability to score in bunches. Kentucky will probably need to retool all over again in 2012, as they won't return many of these young men.

Nov.11 at home vs Marist

James McAdoo: North Carolina

8 of 10

Another family tie here, James McAdoo is the nephew of former NBA great and Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo. McAdoo has drawn comparison to former Tar Heel great James Worthy.

He is long, athletic and not surprisingly has a tremendous basketball IQ. McAdoo and the Tar Heels will see a major test early.

Debut: Nov 11 vs Michigan State

Anthony Davis: Kentucky

9 of 10

Long, lean and more versatile than a Swiss Army knife, Davis is perhaps the best prospect for the loaded Wildcats and the nation. Having grown a staggering seven inches in a year, he is now close to seven feet tall, with the same handle and passing ability he had before the growth spurt.

Keeping him in Lexington past this season is about as likely as keeping the Wildcats out of the NCAA tournament.

Debut: Nov.11 at home vs Marist

Andre Drummond: UCONN

10 of 10

Whether you call Drummond a PF or a C, it doesn't matter, he is a man-child. At 6'10" with Shawn Kemp-like leaping ability and a fully-filled out NBA body, he would have been the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft had he been eligible.

He has already had a minor setback, as he suffered a broken nose and a mild concussion in practice. He shouldn't miss any time and is expected to compete for the first month with a mask; Drummond is a pretty special talent.

Debut: Nov 11 against Columbia
