WWE News: Is John Cena Behind Zack Ryder's Recent Push on RAW?

Drake OzNov 8, 2011

One of the main criticisms you’ll read about John Cena is that he “constantly buries other wrestlers” and “never puts anybody over.”

If you follow Cena on Twitter, though, you probably know that that just isn’t the case when it comes to Zack Ryder. Cena has consistently praised Ryder on the social networking site and has even tweeted that his followers should follow "Long Island Iced Z" as well.

But is he the main reason behind Ryder’s recent push?

John Cena continues to publicly support Zack Ryder. He tweeted today he feels Ryder should be given a United States Championship shot and tagged with him at recent European shows.

While a lot of this is kayfabe, Cena has been a vocal supporter of Ryder's to WWE officials. Given his status in the company, Cena's opinion holds a lot of weight.

"

There’s absolutely no doubt that Cena’s support is really helping out Ryder. Cena has as much pull backstage as any wrestler in the WWE (aside from Triple H), and company officials are going to listen to what the man has to say.

But don’t be fooled—Ryder’s push has just as much to do with his ability to get himself over as it does with Cena’s support.

Ryder really is a phenomenal example of how a wrestler can gain a legion of fans without having to rely on the Creative team booking him in good storylines. The reason why Ryder is getting praise from Cena is because Cena saw Ryder’s charisma and ability to relate to the fans, and he figured it would be a good idea to actually get the guy on TV.

It’s not like Cena just decided to become a huge supporter of Ryder one day for no reason.

No, Ryder worked his tail off to get himself noticed, get himself over and then get himself a consistent spot on WWE TV. Sure, he should thank Cena for helping him stay in his current mid-card role on Monday Night RAW.

But he should give himself a pat on the back first.
