WWE Rumors: If Lita Comes Back , How Does That Affect the Other Divas?

David LevinNov 4, 2011

With all the drama that has been uncovered in recent days over the Twitter accounts of Amy Dumas, also known as Lita in the WWE, current Divas champion Beth Phoenix and her purported beau, CM Punk, I wonder if we are watching wrestling or E! Entertainment Television.

Truth be told, maybe it is a combination of both.

It has been rumored that Dumas, who left the WWE in 2006, may make a comeback to wrestling. Lita, one of the most popular female wrestlers of our generation, helped redefine women in the business with her athletic ability, style and beauty.

But if the former WWE champion does make her way back to the ring, who will face her and what will it do to the WWE Divas Division?

A story by fellow Bleacher Report Featured Columnist, Sharon Glencross, reports that the WWE's Jim Ross stated if "Lita" did come back to wrestling, it would be a lift for the divas in the company.

But who would really be able to keep up with the more athletic and talented Dumas?

Right now, there are maybe three females that come to mind. Of course, you have to start with the current WWE Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix, which could open a can of worms and provide for a great rivalry.

Then there is Natalya, with the pedigree of her father, Jim Neidhart, and the Hart family behind her. The only other one I can think of right now who might keep up with her would be Alicia Fox.

There is no Melina. There is no Gail Kim. There is no Trish Stratus—unless the WWE can find a way to get Lita's former adversary in the ring. Mickie James is in TNA. Kharma is out for an indefinite period. There is no other athlete suited to face her.

ODB would be an interesting concept, but right now, although not wrestling, she is under contract to TNA Wrestling.

So what happens?

In order for Lita to make the splash she did five years ago, there needs to be a stronger division. There must be more women who "wrestle," and there needs to be a real push to keep her character and her motivation on the forefront of every wrestling fan's mind.

If not, it is a wasted chance at catching lightning in a bottle.

And right now, the Divas Division needs all the electricity it can get.
