The NFL Division All-Stars Playoff: Who Has the Power?

Alex RobertsDec 12, 2008

Which division is the most dominant in pro football?

Is it the NFC South, where the Panthers. Bucs, Saints, and Falcons have been very good this year?

Is it the AFC East, where the top three teams (Dolphins, Patriots, and Jets) are all jumbled for first at 8-5?

Or is it the year of the NFC East, where the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, and Redskins have provided plenty of thrills?

This is the opportunity for us to ponder, guess, and discuss what could happen if the all stars from each division formed a team and went at each other in a playoff race.

I will select the pro's players based on statistics and team importance for the 2008 season. I will select only starters, unless otherwise noted.

The divisions are seeded one through eight. Check the bracket to check out the seeding. The seed is determined by record against teams from other conferences other than their own.

The top seed was actually a tie. The NFC South and East. Tiebreaker went to the South, due to better head-to-head play against the East.

The winner of each game will be decided by user voting percentage. I will post a different game every couple of games,

So, without further ado, the first game of the series!

THE NFC SOUTH VS. THE NFC WEST

Team Matchup

QB-  Drew Brees or Kurt Warner? I would have to go with Brees, due to the amazing season he has had.
Advantage: NFC SOUTH

HB/FB- There is no comparison here. Williams and Turner are two of the best, period, and Brad Hoover is a do it all FB.
Advantage: NFC SOUTH

WR/TE- The two beastly Cardinal receivers trump the trio in the South.
Advantage: NFC WEST

Offensive Line- Not even close.  Some of the better running teams in the NFL are a part of the south. The linemen are strong.
Advantage: NFC SOUTH

Defensive Line- There is some talent in the West here, but Peppers and Abraham coming off the ends? Sick.
Advantage: NFC SOUTH

Linebackers: Very evenly matched. Good young players and MLB, and great tacklers on the outside.
Advantage: EVEN

Cornerbacks: Not even close again. I struggled to find a viable third CB for the West.
Advantage: NFC SOUTH

Special Teams: One of the best special teams in the NFL is the Bucs... and John Kasay is having a phenomenal year.
Advantage: NFC SOUTH

Overall

The NFC SOUTH takes six of eight categories with one draw.

If this game were to be played, I believe it would be a shootout to begin the game, with the running game and defense of the South slowly sucking the life out of the West. 45-21, SOUTH.
