John Brown Basketball Video: Watch Annual Tradition of TPing the Court

The students at John Brown University have taken the phrase “making it rain” to a whole new level.

The NAIA program located in western Arkansas near the Oklahoma border has a unique tradition every year for their teams’ first home basketball game.

Every year when JBU hits their first shot of the season, a flurry of toilet paper is thrown to the court. Watching the video it looks like a snowstorm erupts inside the gymnasium. It’s the students way of toilet-papering their court without the cops chasing after them.

It’s a really cool tradition that doesn’t hurt or offend anybody (a rarity in 2011). The only thing affected is a technical foul that was called as the opponents got to shoot two freebies to compensate the snowstorm of Charmin on the court. Considering JBU won 101-58…no harm no foul.

About the only folks who shouldn't enjoy the party-like atmosphere of the TP game are members of the opposing team, but even they often seem to appreciate the tradition. Hillsdale Freewill Baptist coach Eric Wright has volunteered to be John Brown's opponent in the TP game each of the past five seasons because his players relish being part of a historic tradition and getting the chance to delay the onslaught of toilet paper as long as possible.

So next time you are in the stands screaming some chant that is barely audible, just remember that making your mark on a game is not as hard as it looks.

All you need is a few hundred people and a whole lot of toilet paper.
