NFL Predictions Week 8: Dallas Cowboys and 3 Underdogs Who Will Cover

Alex KayOct 30, 2011

Betting an underdog is always a risky proposition but each and every week at least a few teams end up shocking the world.

Last week it was the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs and certainly the Jacksonville Jaguars that ended up winning straight up after being declared the underdog by bookmakers.

This week I’ve identified a few teams that have a great chance to win outright and definitely cover if you make a wager on them.

Let’s take a look.

Dallas Cowboys (+3 / +135 ML) at Philadelphia Eagles

The Cowboys and Eagles always play close games. This is a pick ‘em with the Eagles giving three for their home field advantage.

I still think that taking the points with Dallas on the road is the way to go.

The Cowboys are relatively healthy and their only major injury is to RB Felix Jones, who won’t be participating in this game. I would be concerned about that if it weren’t for the emergence of DeMarco Murray.

The guy went off for 253 yards and a TD against the Rams last week and should be primed for another big day against the weak Eagles’ defense.

Denver Broncos (+3 / +130 ML) vs. Detroit Lions

I love Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos taking on the free-falling Detroit Lions.

Detroit has lost consecutive games to the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons and now very possibly could drop a third straight to Denver.

Matthew Stafford is probably going to play but his ankle isn’t 100 percent and Jahvid Best is out, which will hurt their offense and make them an even more one-dimensional team than usual.

I also just have a gut feeling to trust Tebow to cover until he proves otherwise. After last week's 18-point run to win and cover in OT, I’m a believer.

Jacksonville Jaguars (+9.5 / +360 ML) at Houston Texans

This is a stretch but Jacksonville proved last week they could beat good teams and do it on the biggest stage.

While this game won’t be nationally televised, the Jaguars will be looking to once again shock everyone by pulling off a major upset.

If they can contain Arian Foster and Ben Tate in the same manner they shut down Ray Rice and the Baltimore running game, they certainly have a good chance of winning this game.
