MLB Trade Rumors: 10 Teams That Should Beg the L.A. Angels for Dan Haren

John BradfordOct 26, 2011

The Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals may still be battling it out in the World Series, but for the 28 other teams in the MLB, the offseason has already begun.

These teams are already trying to figure why they fell short and what they need to do to get to the next level. For many of these teams pitching is necessary.

One name that could be floating in trade discussions is Dan Haren. So let's take a look at the 10 teams that should beg the L.A. Angels for him.

New York Yankees

1 of 10

The battle for the World Series title in New York never stops.

Although the Yankees were second in runs scored, the lack of a second starting pitcher behind C.C. Sabathia cost them in the end.

Dan Haren would be just the type of pitcher New York needs, and we know that money is no obstacle for the Yankees.

Chicago White Sox

2 of 10

There were multiple factors leading to the disappointment of the White Sox 2011 campaign. Chief amongst those had to be the pitching.

No pitcher with over 100 innings pitched had an ERA under 3.5. The White Sox's most consistent pitcher, Mark Buehrle, may or may not have pitched his last game in Chicago. That means the White Sox, if they hope to contend, will be looking to bolster their starting pitching.

In an AL central that seems to have a different winner each year, a move to acquire Haren could propel the White Sox to the top.

Texas Rangers

Let's forget the fact that they may be close to winning their first World Series. This is a business, and Texas will have problems to sort out in the offseason.

C.J. Wilson is up for free agency, and if he opts to go elsewhere, the Rangers would need a front-line starting pitcher to remain competitive in the future.

Haren could be just the man the Rangers need in this case.

Minnesota Twins

4 of 10

Perhaps no team has had a more disappointing season than the Minnesota Twins. After two consecutive years in the playoffs, the Twins finished 2011 in last place.

The Twins don’t like to spend money, but to get back to the success they’ve enjoyed the last 10 years, upgrades must be made. Most likely, the Twins will bank on Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer to spark new life to their offense in 2012.

Besides Scott Baker, no one in the Twins rotation performed well last season. Who knows whether Francisco Liriano will ever return to form, but the acquisition of Haren might be just what Minnesota needs to get their team back on track for the playoffs.

Chicago Cubs

5 of 10

Theo Epstein has quite a task ahead of him in turning the Cubs fortunes around.

There’s no quick fix that will immediately make the Cubs contenders, but the fact is they need starting pitching. Save Matt Garza, the Cubs had no legitimate pitching threat last season.

Considering Carlos Zambrano is probably done in Chicago, Epstein could see Haren as a good piece with which to begin rebuilding the Cubs.

Cincinnati Reds

6 of 10

The Reds are certainly one of the more talented teams in baseball, which made their 2011 performance all the more disappointing.

The Reds feature an excellent offense and have plenty of young, talented starting pitching. However, partly due to injury, there wasn’t enough production from this talent.

Unless the Reds are going to count on potential getting them into the playoffs, they will want to explore the option of a consistent veteran like Haren.

Los Angeles Dodgers

7 of 10

Any big moves by the Dodgers are contingent upon new ownership taking over prior to next season. If that were to happen, an acquisition of Haren would be an excellent first move.

Despite their 2011 record, there are some good pieces on the Dodgers team. Assuming Matt Kemp is back, the Dodgers lineup will be one of the more star-studded in the National League.

L.A. also has the man who may be the best pitcher in baseball in Clayton Kershaw. Depth after him is poor though. A one-two punch of Kershaw and Haren would be tough for any team to deal with.

Detroit Tigers

8 of 10

Just how far can an excellent offense and one great starting pitcher take you? Apparently to the ALCS.

As good as Justin Verlander is, he’s not going to win Detroit a World Series by himself.

If Haren were added to that rotation though, you would suddenly be looking at a team that might be American League favorites.

Toronto Blue Jays

9 of 10

Year after year, despite the difficult division in which they play, the Blue Jays manage to play pretty good baseball. One of these years, they’re going to have to go for it.

The Blue Jays have one of the best offenses in all of baseball and have one really good pitcher in Ricky Romero. After Romero though, the pitching becomes inconsistent.

Maybe the acquisition of Haren would be just enough to sneak the Blue Jays into the playoffs. If they were to get there, the one-two punch of Romero and Haren with that offense could do some real damage.

Boston Red Sox

10 of 10

After an epic collapse, the Boston Red Sox are back to the drawing board on how to reach the playoffs. The Red Sox offense led in runs scored, but the pitching staff was in shambles.

Neither John Lackey nor Erik Bedard proved to be the stabilizing forces they were brought in to be.

With the news that Lackey will miss the 2012 season and serious questions about which pitchers will return, Boston could be looking for a front-line starting pitcher such as Haren.
