NFL Picks Week 8: Saints vs. Rams and Biggest Blowouts

Ryan RudnanskyOct 26, 2011

It's one thing to lose a close game.

It's quite another to get blown out the building.

Nearly every week in the NFL season there is a game that turns into a laughfest and makes the casual football fan change the channel after one quarter of play.

In Week 7, we saw the New Orleans Saints dismantle the Indianapolis Colts, 62-7, with Colts injured star Peyton Manning standing on the sidelines and frowning all the while.

In Week 8, look for three blowouts in particular.

3. Arizona Cardinals at Baltimore Ravens

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb may have looked better against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, but "better" is the key word.

After throwing five interceptions to one touchdown in his previous three games, Kolb threw for 272 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against the Steelers, but he also only completed 52 percent of his passes in the Cardinals' 32-20 loss.

The Cardinals' offense isn't in sync and the defense is giving up 25.5 points per game. Against the Ravens in Week 8, expect the Cardinals' offensive line to have trouble with the Ravens' pass rush and the offense to struggle once again against one of the NFL's top defenses.

2. Miami Dolphins at New York Giants

When you have a 15-point lead against a developing quarterback like Tim Tebow, that's one of those games you expect to win even if you're a bad team. Especially with 7:34 remaining in the game.

But the Dolphins proved just how bad they were in Week 7, losing to Tebow and the Denver Broncos in overtime, 18-15.

They have an underwhelming quarterback in Matt Moore right now, a bad pass defense and a struggling run game. For a team that has also allowed 22 sacks this season, it may get ugly against a Giants' pass rush tied for first in the league with 21 sacks.

If I was head coach Tony Sparano, I may retire even before I'm fired.

1. New Orleans Saints at St. Louis Rams

This game may be held in St. Louis, but it's not going to matter much for the 0-6 Rams.

The Rams picked up a good receiver in Brandon Lloyd before their Week 7 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, but that didn't matter much. The Cowboys still destroyed the Rams, 34-7, as the Rams allowed rookie running back DeMarco Murray to set the Cowboys' single-game rushing record with 253 rushing yards (plus a touchdown).

You can't get much worse than the Rams right now. They're scoring a league-worst 9.3 points per game and allowing 28.5 points per game, second-worst in the NFL.

Now they get to face a Saints team that just dropped 62 points on the Colts.

Oh joy.
