NFL Week 8 Predictions: Which QBs Will Struggle Most in Week 8?

Zach KruseOct 25, 2011

Week 7 of the NFL season gave us plenty of unwatchable quarterback performances.

Charlie Whitehurst completed just 12-of-30 passes for 97 yards and a pick. Matt Hasselbeck went 14-of-30 for 104 yards and a pick. For the better part of the Broncos' overtime win over the Dolphins, Tim Tebow had just three completions and 24 yards.

The Raiders combination of Kyle Boller and Carson Palmer threw six interceptions, including two that went for Chiefs' touchdowns. And Curtis Painter put the final touches on the day, as he threw for 97 yards in the Colts' 62-7 embarrassment on Sunday night.

Not to be outdone by his quarterback brethren, rookie Blaine Gabbert threw for 93 yards and lost a fumble Monday night. Even Joe Flacco got in the mix with eight first-half passing yards.

It likely won't be that bad for another week the whole rest of the season, but it's painfully obvious that some of the quarterback play in the NFL right now just isn't very good.

Week 8 will certainly have its own poor performances. These four quarterbacks are the most likely culprits this week:

Tarvaris Jackson, Seahawks

Jackson is a slight improvement over Whitehurst, but that's not saying a whole lot. Both quarterbacks are far below average, and going up against the Bengals stout defense won't help. Jackson will be playing at home, but the Bengals' pass defense has traveled well in 2011. He could really struggle in his first game back from a shoulder injury.

Colt McCoy, Browns

McCoy led one of the more uninspiring wins of recent memory Sunday, as the Browns knocked off the Seahawks, 6-3. McCoy threw for 178 yards and a pick against a poor pass defense. Now, McCoy has to face a defense this Sunday that's played as well in 2011 as any in the NFL in the 49ers.

Curtis Painter, Colts

It might be safe to include Painter in this category every week from here on out. No quarterback should ever get pulled for the likes of Dan Orlovsky, no matter what the score. The Titans are fresh off getting blown out by the Texans, but I wouldn't count on Painter producing even average stats moving forward.

Kevin Kolb, Cardinals

Lost in the shuffle of the Ravens loss on Monday night was how well their defense played again. Granted, Blaine Gabbert is a rookie. But they harassed him all night, which is something they've done all season to opposing quarterbacks. Kevin Kolb is next, and the Ravens are going to be a pissed off bunch by the time Kolb arrives in Baltimore. Look out.
