Ravens vs. Jaguars: Jacksonville Exposes Baltimore's Terrible Offense on MNF

Alex KayOct 25, 2011

I predicted the Baltimore Ravens were going to stomp the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football.

Wow, was I wrong.

The Baltimore offense was absolute atrocious last night and it couldn’t get anything done on that side of the football.

Just look at the box score for evidence of that.

Between Ray Rice, Ricky Williams and Vonta Leach, the "smash-mouth" Ravens running game had just 12 carries for 34 yards and no scores.

Joe Flacco went 21-of-38 for just 137 yards and a very late TD.

The Ravens defense was typically solid, giving up just four field goals in a game it would normally win with any sort of decent offensive production.

Baltimore did not register a single first down in the entire first half and it just seemed completely out of sync the entire night.

How do you hold a team to four field goals (three of them for over 50 yards) and still lose a game?

That has got to be the question that the Baltimore defensive players are asking and the offense is having nightmares trying to figure out.

"It was bad football for most of the game," Flacco said. "We had probably had a three-minute span where we played all right. That’s a pretty bad percentage when it’s a 60-minute football game."

Pro Bowl linebacker Suggs publicly questioned his team's decision making.

"

It baffles me that Ray Rice only had [eight] carries. When I have a Pro Bowl running back and I see he’s not getting his touches, I’m going to feel a certain way about it. He wants the ball, and I think we should feed him. I have to question how many catches Anquan [Boldin] had. We’ve got guys on this team that can do some great things, and we’ve got to use those guys. It’s that simple.

"

I have to agree with Suggs here because it seemed he could have been on the field making plays on defense and calling the game better on the offensive side when he went back to the sideline.

The Jaguars won by pounding the rock with Maurice Jones-Drew and getting the ball to Jason Hill, one of the better receivers on their roster.

The Ravens should have followed that script on offense when nothing else seemed to work.
