2011 NFL: 6 Most Frustrating Teams for Fans
The 2011 NFL season is now well underway, and fans now know which teams are good, bad and downright frustrating. Fans never know what to expect out of these teams; one week is filled with promise, while the next is filled with four-letter words.
The frustrating teams look like Super Bowl contenders one week and bottom of the barrel the next. Whether it be poor decisions on the field, bad coaching or underachieving stars, these teams make fans want to turn of the TV and find the nearest punching bag.
These teams have to figure it out fast—the season is now at its midway point and a true identity must be forged quickly if these teams are to succeed. Without buckling down and commanding excellence from one another, these teams will be labeled failures.
For now, these teams are nothing but frustrating for fans.
Honorable Mention: Detroit Lions
1 of 7While it's true that the Detroit Lions are 5-2, fans have to be frustrated.
Two straight losses, an invisible running game, a plethora of penalties, a dinged-up Matthew Stafford and allegations of continuously being "dirty" is enough to drive fans crazy.
While injuries can't be fixed, discipline and the running game can. The Lions have been flagged 57 times in seven games. The Lions need to play four quarters of solid, clean football for fans to be content come this Sunday.
No. 6: New York Giants
2 of 7The New York Giants are 4-2, but teams have to be frustrated that they're not 6-0. An overall poor performance against their NFC East rival Washington Redskins in Week 1 didn't kick the season off right.
Another dumbfounding moment was their Week 5 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. How in the world did the Giants allow the Seahawks to score 36 points? Four turnovers from quarterback Eli Manning didn't help. Manning's must play consistently good from here on out in order for fans to believe.
The Giants are coming off of their bye week and play the awful Miami Dolphins this week before their schedule gets tremendously difficult. The Giants have to get it together before they fall apart in the second half.
No. 5: New York Jets
3 of 7The New York Jets have been streaky this season. After a 2-0 start, the team lost three in a row before bouncing back with another two straight wins.
In their last game, a microcosm of the Jets' seasons presented itself all in one game. The Jets were down 21-10 at halftime before they pulled out a 27-21 win. While it had to be a relief for fans heading into their bye week, it can't be comforting.
The play of quarterback Mark Sanchez has been inconsistent, and fans have to be wondering which Sanchez will show up each week. Sanchez has only throw for 300-plus yards twice this season and has only thrown for over 200 yards three times. Truth be told, he must be better.
In his defense, a running game would help. The Jets are 28th in the league rushing the ball, which doesn't bode fell for their chances at making the playoffs.
No. 4: Dallas Cowboys
4 of 7Th Dallas Cowboys are 3-3, but could easily be 6-0 right now. The Cowboys have blown two big leads in losses to the New York Jets and Detroit Lions and simply didn't look aggressive enough against the New England Patriots.
The Cowboys looked great in Week 7, but then again they played the 0-6 St. Louis Rams. The team faces a big test in Week 8 when they travel to Philadelphia to face to the Eagles.
If this Cowboys team is to amount to anything, they'll find a way to win this Sunday.
No. 3: San Diego Chargers
5 of 7Sure, the San Diego Chargers are 4-2 and have avoided another notorious poor start, but this team has problems.
The team blew a lead in Week 7 against the New York Jets as it seemed that quarterback Philip Rivers seemed to disappear in the second half. For a 4-2 team, Rivers hasn't played very good. He has seven touchdowns compared to nine interceptions and four fumbles through six games.
The AFC West is suddenly up for grabs and the Chargers head to Kansas City to face a surging Chiefs team on "Monday Night Football" this week. Rivers must be better if the Chargers are to make an impact down the stretch and in the playoffs. If he's not, head coach Norv Turner could be given the boot.
No. 2: Philadelphia Eagles
6 of 7A supposed "Dream Team," a 2-4 start and Philadelphia Eagles' fans are left to wonder what happened?
The Eagles have 10 games remaining, and they must win eight of those to quiet the critics. This team looks great on paper and their numbers look good as well, but they've had trouble finding a way to win to this point.
Eagles fans shouldn't wave the white flag just yet, they Eagles should have had a moment to collect themselves during their bye week in Week 7.
A whole new season starts for the Eagles this week at home against the Dallas Cowboys. In what is a must-win for both sides, it carries major implications for Eagles head coach Andy Reid's job.
No. 1: Baltimore Ravens
7 of 7The Baltimore Ravens went into Week 7 on "Monday Night Football" looking like juggernauts. They came out looking like sheep.
The Ravens were dominated by the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is a now a 4-2 Ravens team that has looked great in their victories and looked pitiful in their losses.
It is almost certain that quarterback Joe Flacco will face a barrage of criticism this week in the media, but the Ravens' offensive line is going through some growing pains. New members Bryant McKinnie and Andre Gurode are getting used to playing side-by-side, and Michael Oher has moved to the right side of the line.
Flacco only threw for only 137 yards in Week 7, much of which came in the last handful of minutes. The fact that the Ravens only ran the ball for a total of 34 yards doesn't help Flacco much.
The Ravens looked like a Super Bowl contender before they biffed it in Week 7. Now they must refocus for the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8 before they face brutal rival Pittsburgh on the road in Week 9. The Steelers will be out to avenge an embarrassing Week 1 loss to the Ravens.
