Top 50 Most Important Things We Learned from the NFL's Week 7
With the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots among the few teams on byes, who would have thought that the NFL's Week 7 would have been this entertaining?
For starters, Tim Tebow simply put on a spectacular show while the Oakland Raiders simply stunk up the field.
With that being said, allow me to kickoff your workweek with a quick recap of this past weekend's action: The top 50 most important things that we learned from the NFL's Week 7.
The Detroit Lions Are Not an Elite Team in the NFL
1 of 50Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons could have been a statement game for the Detroit Lions—it clearly did not go that way.
The Falcons beat up on the Lions, 23-16.
This was a game that Detroit could have clearly won and should have won after coming off of a heart-breaking loss a week ago against the San Francisco 49ers.
Matt Ryan Is a Tough, Fierce Competitor
2 of 50Matt Ryan proved Sunday that he's one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
Ryan had his left ankle stepped on by teammate Will Svitek and it appeared to have bent in a very bad position—he then left the game but came back better than ever.
Ryan finished Sunday's game with 218 yards on 20-of-34 passing for one touchdown and two interceptions—not the best numbers out there, but he got the job done against a very tough defense.
Michael Turner Is One of the Best Running Backs in the League
3 of 50Michael Turner performed like an elite running back against the Lions this Sunday.
The Northern Illinois product ran for 122 yards on 27 carries while controlling the game and keeping the ball out of Detroit's hands.
Shaun Hill Could Be Detroit's Starting Quarterback Next Week
4 of 50The Detroit Lions could be without their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford, next week against the Denver Broncos.
Stafford limped off the field after Sunday's game and is reportedly scheduled to have an MRI Monday on his right leg.
This could potentially be very bad news for the Lions.
Calvin Johnson Is Unstoppable
5 of 50No matter what a defense does, even if they shut Calvin Johnson down, he's still going to produce—it's a given.
Johnson found a way to reel in five passes for 115 yards and a score, his 10th on the season, in Detroit's loss against Atlanta.
Tony Gonzalez Is Still One of the NFL's Better Tight Ends
6 of 50At 35 years old, it's amazing to see Tony Gonzalez still producing as one of the NFL's better tight ends.
Gonzalez had five catches for 62 yards against the Lions and now trails Jerry Rice by 445 receptions for the NFL's all-time leader board in receptions.
Matthew Stafford Needs to Be More Accurate in Order for Detroit to Win
7 of 50Matthew Stafford certainly felt the pressure against the Falcons, as he was sacked three times and was hit many more times in the team's defeat.
In order for the Lions to beat some of the NFL's better teams, like Atlanta, then he's going to have to complete more than 46.9 percent of his passes, especially when the team's running game isn't one of the league's best.
Tim Tebow Is a Winner
8 of 50No matter how poorly he looks and how much he runs, Tim Tebow manages to always find a way to put his team in position to win—and he did so against the Miami Dolphins.
Tebow completed only 48.1 percent of his passes but had a fourth quarter of a lifetime as he threw two touchdowns and ran in the game-tying two-point conversion to push the game into overtime.
Denver ended up winning 18-15, giving Tebow his second win as a starting quarterback.
When the Pressure Is On, Tim Tebow Is at His Best
9 of 50Say what you want about Tim Tebow. You can complain about his poor passing mechanics or his mind-boggling pocket presence, but when the game is on the line and the heat is on, he's one of the NFL's best.
How can you sum up Tebow in one word? Clutch.
Tony Sparano Wont Be Fired Quite Yet
10 of 50Despite speculation indicating that Tony Sparano is on the hot-seat, it appears that his job is safe for now.
According to sources, the Miami Dolphins will not fire Sparano, despite the team starting off a dreadful 0-6.
Tim Tebow Does Not Have Much of a Supporting Cast
11 of 50If Tim Tebow is going to succeed as a Denver Bronco this season to prove that he's capable of being an NFL starting quarterback, then he's going to have to do it all on his own.
Tebow was sacked seven times, granted some of those were his fault, but Miami's blitzes were often unblocked and always got to No. 15. On the other hand, when Tebow actually does have time to throw the ball, his wide receivers aren't anything close to being good, they're average—especially with Brandon Lloyd now being a member of the St. Louis Rams.
Matt Moore Is Not as Bad as Many Think
12 of 50Many probably have labeled Matt Moore as a terrible quarterback—but he's a decent starter, but best fit as a backup quarterback.
Moore completed 22 of his 33 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown as he recorded a 92.6 quarterback rating—definitely not shabby at all.
Tim Tebow Is One of a Kind
13 of 50Tim Tebow may look terrible in the process of playing—but the outcome is what matters the most.
With 5:23 left in the game, trailing 15-0, Tebow was 4-of-15 passing for only 40 yards and that all changed in a heartbeat. From that point on, Tebow completed 9-of-13 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, which is a phenomenal 138.1 quarterback rating.
Matt Prater Is the Tim Tebow of Field Goal Kickers
14 of 50Like Tim Tebow, kicker Matt Prater stunk up the place before performing well when the team needed him the most.
Entering overtime, prior to Prater's game-winning 52-yarder, he had missed two field goals, which if he had made, the Broncos would have easily won.
I guess it's good having two players proven to perform well when the pressure is on.
Houston Is the Favorite to Win the AFC South
15 of 50So much for the Tennessee Titans, they failed a major test against the division rival Houston Texans, 41-7, on their home-field.
The Texans are now 4-3, compared to the Titans being 3-3, and appear to be the clear favorite to win the AFC South.
Arian Foster Appears to Be Playing Like Arian Foster Circa 2010
16 of 50Arian Foster simply put on a show Sunday afternoon against the Tennessee Titans.
Foster ran for an incredible 115 yards on 25 carries while punching in two scores. When he wasn't running the ball, he was just as effective, as he caught five passes and managed to accumulate 119 yards receiving and a touchdown.
All in all, this was one hell of a game for Arian Foster.
Chris Johnson's Struggles Are Now Laughable
17 of 50Chris Johnson is without a doubt a different running back this season.
Johnson ran for only 18 yards on 10 carries which averages out to a putrid 1.8 yards per-carry—at least he's averaging a little bit more than one yard per-carry instead of going negative.
Arian Foster and Ben Tate Are a Two-Headed Monster
18 of 50The Tennessee Titans could not catch a break Sunday against the Houston Texans. When Arian Foster was not on the field, the Titans still could not stop Houston's running attack.
Ben Tate, who was the team's second round pick from a year ago out of Auburn, ran for 104 yards on only 15 carries.
When all was said and done, the Texans ran for an incredible 222 yards on the ground.
Matt Hasselbeck Has Finally Come Back Down to Earth
19 of 50Matt Hasselbeck finally got a reality check Sunday against the Houston Texans, as he was worse than awful—he was putrid.
Hasselbeck completed only 46.7 percent of his passes for 104 yards and a touchdown while being picked off twice and recording a 38.8 quarterback rating.
Jake Locker Will Not See the Field Anytime Soon as the Team's Starter
20 of 50Jake Locker saw very little of the field Sunday in the team's loss against Houston, as he completed one pass for 12 yards.
However, despite how poorly Matt Hasselbeck performed, Locker will likely return back to the sidelines with a clipboard indefinitely.
Chris Johnson Appears to Be in Bad Shape
21 of 50I hope Chris Johnson is happy with his brand-new contract, as he sat out the entire preseason and training camp just to get it.
According to a recent report, CJ2K's condition is a major problem and is one of the biggest reasons why he's been struggling all year long for the Tennessee Titans.
Talk about being selfish.
Matt Forte Is an Absolute Animal
22 of 50Traveling to London, England did not tire Matt Forte one bit.
The Chicago Bear running back carried the team offensively overseas Sunday, as he accumulated 145 rushing yards on 25 carries for one touchdown.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Had No Running Game Sunday Against the Bears
23 of 50The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are definitely in some big trouble moving forward.
Without running backs LeGerrette Blount and Earnest Graham, the team has no running game.
Without the two, the Bucs ran for a grand-total of 30 yards Sunday against the Bears, averaging 2.7 yards per-carry.
Earnest Graham Is Done for the Season
24 of 50Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Earnest Graham left Sunday's game in London with a reported torn Achilles tendon.
There is no question that Graham will be placed on the team's injured reserve sometime this week.
Roy Williams Finally Played Like a No. 1 Wide Receiver
25 of 50Roy Williams had his best game of the season Sunday in London as he caught four passes for 59 yards and a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Maybe the NFL could put a franchise in London, as Williams appears to play just fine overseas.
There NFL Could Be Expanding to London, England
26 of 50The NFL could be headed overseas indefinitely, according to sources.
According to that report, league commissioner Roger Goodell will plan to have teams play more regularly in London, England in order to get a feel on if an NFL franchise could survive overseas in London.
What do you think? Should the NFL expand to England?
Josh Freeman Needs to Stop Turning the Ball over in Order for Tampa Bay to Win
27 of 50I will give Josh Freeman some slack for playing so poorly against the Chicago Bears with no running game, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have won this game.
Freeman was picked off four times and completed only 56.9 percent of his passes while losing by only six points—take away a few of his picks, I'd say the Bucs would have won this game.
Clevleand vs. Seattle Was the Ultimate Snooze-fest
28 of 50How can I say this nicely? The Cleveland Browns and the Seattle Seahawks both suck—I hope that's not too harsh.
This was arguably one of the most non-exciting games in NFL history and I am so happy that I did not lose any second of my life watching this 6-3 snooze-fest.
Charlie Whitehurst Should Not Be Seattle's Starting Quarterback in the Future
29 of 50Until quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is back and healthy, the Seattle Seahawks' offensive attack is in big trouble.
Without Jackson, Charlie Whitehurst got the start and simply was absolutely terrible. Whitehurst completed 12 of his 30 passes for only 97 yards, as he was sacked three times and picked off once.
The Seahawks managed to score only three points.
Colt McCoy Needs Weapons in Order to Succeed in Cleveland
30 of 50It's quite frustrating watching Colt McCoy play, as he's got the talent and guts to succeed in this league, but the Cleveland Browns have no offensive weapons for the second-year quarterback.
The Texas product has the worst supporting cast in the entire NFL, and will not have a chance to succeed in Cleveland until the team actually surrounds him with some talent.
The New York Jets Are Alive
31 of 50Whatever you do, do not count the New York Jets out—they're a playoff contender and they proved it Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
The Jets entered Sunday's game with a 3-3 record and had major concerns on both sides of the ball. Against a very good Chargers' team, the Jets were able come back from a 10-21 deficit to win 27-21.
New York is now 4-3 on the season.
Mark Sanchez Wasn't Great, but He Was Good Against San Diego
32 of 50The New York Jets could be so much better if Mark Sanchez actually completed around 65 percent of his passes.
In the team's 27-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers, Sanchez completed 18 of his 33 passes for 173 yards and an interception, but he did throw three touchdowns.
Shonn Greene Finally Came Alive Against the Chargers
33 of 50Shonn Greene finally put out a performance Sunday against the San Diego Chargers that amounted to something.
Greene ran for 112 yards on 20 carries, averaging 5.6 yards per-carry.
Entering Sunday against the Chargers, Greene had only be averaging 3.4 yards per-carry.
Philip Rivers Cannot Turn the Ball over and Expect to Beat Solid Teams
34 of 50Philip Rivers did not impress me one bit against the New York Jets, as he turned the ball over twice and completed only 50 percent of his passes. If Rivers wants to beat teams like the New York Jets, then he's going to have to play a whole lot better.
Rivers is simply too talented to be completing only 50 percent of his passes, even against elite defenses like the Jets—this was one of his worst games as a starter.
LaDainian Tomlinson Is All but Washed Up and Done with
35 of 50I hate to be so harsh, but LaDainian Tomlinson is actually making a fool out of himself nowadays with the New York Jets—it is so clear that his time is done in the NFL and that he needs to hang up the cleats.
Against his former team the San Diego Chargers, Tomlinson ran for only 14 yards on just five carries—not productive whatsoever.
Plaxico Burress' Three Touchdowns Is Just a Mirage
36 of 50I will say one thing, Plaxico Burress had a great fantasy day but this is real football, not fantasy.
In terms of real-life football, Burress' three touchdowns are nothing but a mirage.
Plax is still running sloppy routes and appears to be a bit rusty after spending 20 months in prison.
Go ahead, call me crazy on this one, but Burress' performance against the San Diego Chargers is nothing but a mirage and quite possibly a perfect case of being in the right place at the right time.
This Was Cam Newton's Best Week as a Starter
37 of 50This was Cam Newton's best week in his very short NFL career.
Newton and the Carolina Panthers beat a very talented Washington Redskins team, 33-20.
Newton completed an incredible 78.3 percent of his passes for 256 yards and a score while running the ball for 59 yards and a score.
When Newton is in his prime, these are the numbers that I'll be expecting out of him week in and week out.
Cam Newton Is the NFL's Most Dynamic Quarterback
38 of 50Move over Michael Vick, Cam Newton is much more dynamic than you are.
Newton threw for 256 yards and ran for 59 in the team's 33-20 victory over the Washington Redskins.
There is no question that Newton is one of the NFL's most well-rounded quarterbacks—despite being a rookie, Newton can do it all.
John Beck Isn't Much Better Than Rex Grossman
39 of 50The Washington Redskins are better off starting no one at quarterback—only if that was possible.
John Beck was not much of an upgrade from Rex Grossman, as he completed 59.5 percent of his passes for just one touchdown along with turning the ball over twice in the team's loss against Carolina.
Ben Roethlisberger Did What He Was Supposed to Do Against Arizona
40 of 50There is no reason why Ben Roethlisberger should not have had a great day against one of the league's worst pass defenses, the Arizona Cardinals.
Big Ben threw for 361 yards and three scores while posting a 121.8 quarterback in the team's 32-30 victory in the desert.
Kevin Kolb Is Still Improving as a Starter
41 of 50I guess it's just baby steps for Kevin Kolb.
Kolb finally posted a solid quarterback rating against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kolb completed 18 of his 34 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns but was picked off twice. However, Kolb did connect to Larry Fitzgerald four times for 78 yards.
Oakland's Bye Week Comes at the Perfect Time
42 of 50Let's put it this way: The Oakland Raiders were not ready to play Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, as they lost 28-0.
Oakland enters their bye week with a 4-3 record and now have time to get quarterback Carson Palmer ready to be the team's starting quarterback. Also, the team will now be able to rest the injured Daren McFadden who left Sunday's game with a right foot sprain.
The Kansas City Chiefs Are White Hot
43 of 50The Oakland Raiders a very good football team but somehow the Kansas City Chiefs were able to walk away with an impressive 28-0 shutout.
After starting 0-3, the Chiefs have now won three in a row and are now 3-3, which is good enough for third place in the AFC West.
DeMarco Murray Is Going to Be a Stud
44 of 50DeMarco Murray had a record setting day as he broke the Dallas Cowboys' franchise record for rushing yards in a single game as he ran for 253, 16 more yards than Emmitt Smith.
The Cowboys went onto destroy the St. Louis Rams 34-7 to improve to 3-3 on the year.
Brandon Lloyd Impressed in His Debut as a Ram
45 of 50Brandon Lloyd had one hell of a debut as a St. Louis Ram this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Lloyd caught six passes for 74 yards, but the Rams did lose pitifully, 34-7.
The Christian Ponder Era Has Begun
46 of 50Christian Ponder looked extremely good in his debut as an NFL starter against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Green Bay Packers.
The Florida State product threw for 219 yards, as he completed 13 of his 32 passes while tossing two scores and being picked off twice.
All in all, with Ponder at quarterback, the Vikings were able to score 27 points, which is the second highest point total all season.
Not One Team Can Stop Aaron Rodgers
47 of 50I'm going to keep this one very simple and just lay out Aaron Rodgers' stats against the Minnesota Vikings: 24-of-30, 335 yards, three touchdowns and a 146.5 quarterback rating.
Front-runner for the league's MVP? You bet.
The New Orleans Saints Offense Is Phenomenal
48 of 5062-7—that's all that I have to say.
Drew Brees completed an absurd 88.6 percent of his passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns—I am so happy that he's on one of my fantasy teams.
The New Orleans Saints showed how awful the Indianapolis Colts truly are.
The Indianapolis Colts Are Done for
49 of 50Anytime a team scores 62 points in a game in the National Football League, chances are that the other team is completely awful.
The Indianapolis Colt's season is done.
It's time to "Suck for Luck."
Rams, Colts and Dolphins Are All Front-Runners for the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes
50 of 50The St. Louis Rams, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins all might as well hand out t-shirts that say "Suck For Luck"—as they're all likely going to win less than three games this season with maybe one of them losing all 16.
Who do you think will win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes? If The Rams do, what will they do? Will they trade Sam Bradford or trade the pick?
