JaVale McGee Channels Buddha, Photographs His Antics While Traveling the Globe

Andrew KulhaOct 22, 2011

There is no doubt that the 2011 NBA lockout has impacted basketball fans all around the globe, but not everybody is choosing to deal with it in such a serious matter.

While the lockout is serious, considering that one of the United State's major sports and revenue streams may not even play this season, JaVale McGee has apparently decided to take his frustrations and vent them in a whole new way. In fact, he's completely made up a new phenomenon from scratch, and I wouldn't be surprised if it started a fad.

By now, you should be familiar with the craze known as planking, which is essentially the "art" of lying face down and keeping your hands rigid to the side of your body like a plank. The kicker is that, in order to be a legitimate plank, you need to have a picture taken of it, and the more unusual the location of the plank the better.

As an NBA player, McGee has shown incredible potential and skill, as evidence by his 10.1 points and eight rebounds per game in 2011 with the Washington Wizards. He may have shown even greater potential as a planker, though.

Video of McGee planking in the Smart Ultimate All-Star Weekend in the Philippines surfaced over the summer, and needless to say, it may be one of the most impressive planking locations yet.

While this is undoubtedly an astonishing feat, McGee apparently wants, and I dare say needs, more. Pictures have come out that feature McGee doing a new form of planking that seems to have been christened as Flying Buddha-ing.

In order to perform the Flying Buddha, one must jump in the air and strike a meditation pose, all the while being photographed and keeping a serious face mind you.

Internet blog TheBasketballJones via thescore.com was able to track down some pictures of McGee performing the Flying Buddha:

It obviously takes skill, focus and determination, so we here at Bleacher Report would like to warn all of our readers to try this phenomenon at your own risk, and be aware that it is a lot harder than it looks.

That being said, if you can pull it off, you will be part of this new fad that will undoubtedly take off, and you will have JaVale McGee and the NBA lockout to thank.
