NFL's Stock Up Stock Down Week 8: Whose Value Is Plummeting after Week 7?

David LevinOct 24, 2011

Some things are too good to be true. Handshake Gate and now another loss by the Lions?

The Dolphins let a victory slip through their hands. And the comeback by a mobile yet unimpressive Tim Tebow? Please!

What about the the Colts and the 62 points the Saints threw on them? Amazing stuff.

Yes, there are some teams in the NFL that are just plummeting in the standings, their division and the league. Think about this. Three teams have yet to win, and two teams have one win each to their name.

The Jaguars got off the hot seat at least for one week with the win on Monday night.

Not go. And it will only get worse.

There will be some serious decisions to be made soon if some teams don't get it straightened out. And there are players who may be feeling the heat as well.

Yes, changes are in the offing, but again, this is the NFL which may stand for "Not For Long" in terms of a team's success or a coach having a job.

Carson Palmer, Oakland Raiders

1 of 15

Let's start with the obvious choice.

The Raiders did not think he would come in a backup situation and win, did they?

Kyle Boller started and played poorly. Palmer came in and could not do anything to help.

Do the Raiders now turn to Terrelle Pryor and see what he can do, or does the team wait to see if Palmer can work through the kinks and light it up?

Stay tuned.

Tony Sparano, Miami Dolphins

The "Tony Sparano Watch" continues.

This team had this game won, and then something amazing happened.

His name was Tim Tebow.

Not to make a big deal out of a subpar game for Tebow in his first start, but "The Chosen One" engineered another comeback, this time as a Bronco.

The Dolphins played well enough to win and didn't. All the time with team owner Stephen Ross and former Gator head coach Urban Meyer on the sideline.

A prelude of things to come?

Jim Caldwell, Indianapolis Colts

It just cannot get any easier for the Indianapolis head coach.

Are you serious about a 62-7 loss at the hands of the Saints?

The problems are not just the loss of Peyton Manning. It's the entire team, and Caldwell cannot seem to stop the bleeding of a very deep wound.

Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions

4 of 15

He got the ire up of the Falcons when Matt Ryan went down in the third quarter. Suh is developing a reputation of not only being a great defensive tackle, but as one who plays dirty.

I guess after years of being in the doldrums of the NFL, it's good to see a player with as much passion and ability as Suh, but his reputation could take a hit for his play against the Falcons.

Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys

5 of 15

The second-year receiver for the Cowboys was quoted as saying playing in the Big 12 was tougher than playing in the NFL.

His reasoning? He was double and triple-teamed in college. He gets one-on-one coverage in the NFL.

Are you serious? If it was so easy, he would have Randy Moss or Jerry Rice numbers.

Note to Bryant, you aren't there yet.

Reggie Bush, Miami Dolphins

6 of 15

After the 18-15 loss to the Broncos, the former New Orleans Saints player made a stunning proclamation. He said the Dolphins stink.

Whoa, what a comment!

Bush has never been one to keep his mouth shut, and he was not the most gracious person when the Saints drafted rookie and former Heisman winner Mark Ingram. Bush was then traded to the Dolphins.

Maybe this comment gets him shown the door again.

Ken Whisenhunt, Arizona Cardinals

7 of 15

I got to think there are some whispers concerning his job.

The Cardinals are 1-5 on the season. They traded for Kevin Kolb and signed Larry Fitzgerald to a contract extension.

The Cards have not played well since being in the Super Bowl two seasons ago. Since then, it has been all downhill.

And you figure Whisenhunt will start hearing some rumors if his team does not win now.

Mike Shanahan, Washington Redskins

8 of 15

As head coach, there are some decisions that you will be judged by during your tenure with a team.

Keeping John Beck and Rex Grossman while not shopping for a new starter may be one of them.

The John Beck Era in Washington started with a 33-20 lost to Carolina.

And some have speculated that the play of the quarterbacks in Washington could determine Shanahan's fate in D.C.

Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans

9 of 15

Will he ever get it rolling again?

That seems to be the big question in Tennessee.

The All-Pro "Playmaker" asked for more money, held out and got it.

And since then, he has been nothing but a major disappointment.

This is a team, that with a better running game, could challenge to go deep in the playoffs.

No such luck so far. As long as Johnson is slowed or shows no improvement, this team goes nowhere.

Steve Spagnuolo, St. Louis Rams

10 of 15

They aren't as good as they thought they were.

They aren't as good as we thought they were.

This was supposed to be the breakout team in the NFL this year.

NOT!

Spangnuolo, regardless of this being his third season, the team should be better than it is. Injuries count for something, but they need not be a crutch.

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens

11 of 15

This was supposed to be a night where the real Joe Flacco showed up.

He didn't.

Flacco and the Ravens looked lost all night and when they did score in the final quarter, they still looked a little out of sync.

If the Ravens are to really make a run at the AFC crown, Flacco needs to take better command of the offense.

Leslie Frazier, Minnesota Vikings

Your rookie quarterback has a pretty good game in his debut.

Your star running back runs for daylight against the Super Bowl Champs.

You even have a 100-yard receiver.

Time is running out on this head coach. The team should be better than this.

His expression says it all.

Rex Ryan, New York Jets

13 of 15

I know the Jets won this week and played better than they have in weeks, but Ryan is a goofball who should have kept his mouth shut this week.

Regardless about how he feels about the team, the opponent or the players he is playing against, a coach should stay committed to the one who brought him to the dance.

In the future, Ryan should just keep his quiet and let his team do the talking for him.

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville

14 of 15

I hate doing this after the Jags win a huge game on MNF, but you don't put the ball on the carpet three times like that.

Jones-Drew ran for 105 yards on the night in a 12-7 win, but he looked tentative after the fumbles and it looked like it definitely affected his game.

Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner

15 of 15

Here is one I bet you wouldn't think to find on this list.

Goodell and the owners voted to play one NFL game in London each year.

Seriously?

While the Lockout was a huge deal and fans see how it may have affected players and teams this season, don't you think you should concentrate on playing games on American soil?

I get the attraction to Mexico and Canada, but going across the pond is a bit much.

Keep the games at home.
