Bold Predictions for the NFL's Week 7

Tony SantorsaOct 20, 2011

Not only are we about to the NFL's Week 7, but we're about to start the Tim Tebow era in Denver—it's Tebow Time!

Tebow will be making his season debut as the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, and this is definitely the most intriguing storyline of them all.

Along with Tebow's debut in Miami, we also have quite the slate of entertaining matchups this weekend, including the Detroit Lions taking on the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets battling it out with the San Diego Chargers.

In that spirit, allow me to kick off your weekend in a bold way: Here are my bold predictions for the NFL's Week 7.

The Atlanta Falcons Will Upset the Detroit Lions

1 of 49

The Detroit Lions may be the favorites entering their Week 7 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, but the Falcons will walk away with a victory.

On paper, the Lions are certainly a very talented team, but this is their first season being a playoff contender, while the Falcons have been contenders since Matt Ryan and Mike Smith came to town.

The Falcons are simply more experienced than the Lions, and I expect them to emerge as victors in a likely playoff atmosphere in the Motor City this weekend.

Michael Turner Will Run for at Least 150 Yards Against the Lions

2 of 49

Last week against the San Francisco 49ers, the Detroit Lions allowed 141 rushing yards by stud running back Frank Gore.

Their struggles stopping the ground game will continue this week against Michael Turner and the Atlanta Falcons.

I project that Turner will have at least 150 yards on the ground while adding one or two touchdowns in Atlanta's upset of the Lions.

Julio Jones Will Finally Score His First NFL Touchdown

3 of 49

Rookie Julio Jones has put up superb numbers thus far this season for the Atlanta Falcons, as he's reeled in 25 passes for 358 yards, but he has yet to score a single touchdown. That will change this week.

The Alabama product is bound to score a touchdown at some point—he's simply too talented and too productive not to.

In a game that should end up being a shootout, I expect Jones to score his first career NFL touchdown.

Calvin Johnson Will Record Two Receiving Touchdowns Against the Falcons

4 of 49

Calvin Johnson's brilliance will continue this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Thus far this season, Megatron has caught two touchdowns in four games and at least one touchdown in five games, but he was most recently shut out for the first time last week against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Lions figure to get Megatron more involved this week, and he'll likely end up with two touchdowns for the fifth time this season in a high-scoring battle with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions Will Combine for 76 Total Points

5 of 49

I am telling you right now: The Atlanta Falcons will upset the Detroit Lions in a high-scoring affair with a predicted score of 40-36.

Both teams have explosive offenses with multiple weapons for their quarterbacks to use, so this game will likely be a back-and-fourth shootout. This will be must-see TV.

Tim Tebow Will Lead the Denver Broncos to Victory over the Miami Dolphins

6 of 49

It is time: It's Tebow Time!

In Tebow's first start of the season he will lead the Denver Broncos to a victory over the Miami Dolphins.

Tebow will improve his record to 2-3 as a starter.

Tim Tebow Will Throw for 300 Yards Against the Dolphins

7 of 49

How far-fetched is this one? The Miami Dolphins have one of the worst pass defenses in the league, and Tim Tebow has the big arm to shred their secondary apart.

Tebow will have a solid shot at accumulating 300 yards passing.

Tim Tebow Will Score Three or More Touchdowns Against Miami

8 of 49

How will Tim Tebow score three or more touchdowns against the Dolphins? Who knows?

Tebow has the ability to make things happen on the ground and in the air. There's no question in my mind that Tebow will simply go off against Miami this Sunday.

Matt Moore Will Throw More Touchdowns Than Interceptions Against the Broncos

9 of 49

Matt Moore and the Miami Dolphins will square off against one of the NFL's worst defenses, the Denver Broncos.

Moore was awful in his first start of the season against the New York Jets this past Monday. Moore threw zero touchdowns, as he was picked off twice and completed only 16 of his 34 passes.

This will all change Sunday against the Broncos.

The Houston Texans Will Knock off the Tennessee Titans

10 of 49

This Sunday's matchup with the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans could very well be a huge deciding factor in who wins the AFC South.

The Texans will enter Sunday's game with a disappointing 3-3 record, as the Titans surprisingly stand at 3-2.

In my opinion, Houston is a much more talented team than the Titans, and they should prevail with a victory.

Chris Johnson Will Gain at Most 50 Yards Against Houston

11 of 49

How putrid has Chris Johnson been this season for the Tennessee Titans? CJ2K has run for only for 250 yards on the season while averaging only 3.0 yards per carry.

Johnson's struggles will continue against the Texans, as Houston is actually the 13th-best run defense in the NFL.

Fantasy owners, take note.

Matt Schaub Will Throw Three Touchdowns Without Andre Johnson

12 of 49

With Andre Johnson likely not playing in Sunday's matchup against the Titans, quarterback Matt Schaub will still find a way to produce at a high level.

Schaub has been pretty solid for the Texans thus far this season, as he's recorded a 90.7 quarterback rating with 10 touchdowns compared to five interceptions.

The Texans Will Intercept Matt Hasselbeck Two or More Times

13 of 49

Somehow Matt Hasselbeck is finding a way to be productive with the Tennessee Titans this season, as he's posted a 95.9 quarterback rating. Don't let that deceive you, though.

Hasselbeck hasn't really been that great this season; he doesn't take any big chances, as he often checks down to short, high-percentage passes.

In this game against the Texans, Hasselbeck will have his first major lapse of the season.

Tampa Bay and Chicago Will Be Involved in a Shootout

14 of 49

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chicago Bears are two middle-of-the-road offenses, but both teams will explode this Sunday in Tampa.

Both teams certainly have all the offensive firepower, and I'm actually predicting this game to be a very high-scoring affair with the Bucs walking away with the win.

Matt Forte Will Shred the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Run Defense

15 of 49

Just a few weeks ago Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers absolutely ran over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as he compiled 125 yards rushing, averaging 6.1 yards per carry.

This week against the Chicago Bears, running back Matt Forte should have his way with Tampa Bay's run defense.

I expect huge numbers out of Forte this weekend.

Mike Williams Will Reel in a Touchdown Reception

16 of 49

Believe it or not, Mike Williams actually scored 11 touchdowns last season as a rookie but has only reeled in one touchdown reception this season. That will change Sunday against the Bears.

As I'm predicting both teams to score a lot of points, I'm going to say that Williams will have at least one touchdown reception, as he's Tampa Bay's No. 1 option.

Jay Cutler Will Not Be Sacked a Single Time

17 of 49

Did you know there has not been a single game this season where Jay Cutler was not sacked? That will change Sunday against the Buccaneers.

As I'm predicting the teams will be engaged in a shootout, that means Cutler is going to have a solid game, which means the offensive line is going to do a very good job of protecting its franchise quarterback.

Tarvaris Jackson Will Miss Sunday's Game Against the Cleveland Browns

18 of 49

With reports that Charlie Whitehurst is taking all of the team's first-offense snaps this week, I find it very hard to believe that Tarvaris Jackson will even play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Jackson has been dealing with a high-grade pectoral strain the past couple of weeks, and it's certainly an injury that can affect a quarterback in a bad way.

Charlie Whitehurst Will Fall Flat on His Face Against the Cleveland Browns

19 of 49

Charlie Whitehurst has a career 71.2 quarterback rating, but managed to do very well in his first appearance of the season two weeks ago against the New York Giants.

Whitehurst completed 11 of his 19 passes for 149 yards while tossing a touchdown, but he will struggle tremendously against the Cleveland Browns Sunday.

The Browns have one of the NFL's better pass defenses, and I don't see the inexperienced Whitehurst playing very well.

Peyton Hillis Will Miss Sunday's Matchup Against the Seattle Seahawks

20 of 49

I guess the Madden Curse is real—Peyton Hillis has been completely terrible this season for the Cleveland Browns and has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury.

As Hillis is day-to-day with his hamstring injury, I personally do not believe he'll even be active for Sunday's game.

For all you fantasy owners out there, including myself, I am extremely sorry if you were unfortunate enough to draft Peyton Hillis.

Colt McCoy Will Have His Best Game of the Season Against the Seahawks

21 of 49

Colt McCoy and the Cleveland Browns will be facing off against the eighth-worst pass defense this Sunday in the Seattle Seahawks.

McCoy has been a rather disappointment this season for the Browns, as he's only thrown eight touchdowns while recording a 78.1 quarterback rating.

Sunday against the Seahawks, I'm thinking that McCoy will go off and throw for close to 300 yards and toss two or three touchdowns—his best game of the season.

The New York Jets Will Destroy the San Diego Chargers

22 of 49

This is a game that the New York Jets absolutely need to win. They're 3-3 and have looked awful against possible playoff contenders in the AFC with losses against the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders.

The Jets and Chargers are pretty equal on both sides of the ball, but I'm certain that New York's secondary and pass rush will simply be too overwhelming against Philip Rivers and the Chargers.

Shonn Greene Will Actually Run for over 100 Yards Against the Chargers

23 of 49

So far this season running back Shonn Greene has been an extreme bust and has yet to accumulate 100 yards in a game—but that will not be the case Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.

In order for the Jets to beat up on the Chargers, they're going to run the ball and control the clock, which means Greene is going to have to have his best game thus far this season.

I predict Greene runs for around 120 yards and one touchdown.

Philip Rivers Will Throw Three Interceptions Against the Jets

24 of 49

Despite having the potential to be one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks, Philip Rivers hasn't been that great this season for the San Diego Chargers.

Rivers has been picked off seven times while throwing only six touchdowns, and his struggles will only get worse Sunday against the New York Jets.

The Jets clearly have one of the best secondaries in the NFL, led by Darrelle Revis, and I predict New York will pick Rivers off three times.

Mark Sanchez Will Complete Around 70 Percent of His Passes

25 of 49

If the New York Jets are actually going to beat up on the San Diego Chargers, then Mark Sanchez is going to have to have the game of his life.

Sanchez is known to be an inaccurate passer with a career completion percentage of 54.7 percent, but he'll have a career day Sunday, completing around 70 percent of his passes.

Call me crazy now, but just wait and see.

Plaxico Burress Will Score Two Touchdowns Against San Diego

26 of 49

Plaxico Burress started off this season solidly with two touchdowns in the first three weeks but has been on a major decline ever since.

Burress' slump continued this past Monday against the Miami Dolphins, as he only recorded one reception for 16 yards.

This will all change this weekend with Burress having the best game of his season.

The Carolina Panthers Will Destroy the Washington Redskins

27 of 49

With John Beck at quarterback for the Washington Redskins, I give the team no chance of winning Sunday against the 1-5 Carolina Panthers.

The game is in Carolina, and I'm predicting that the Panthers will simply manhandle the Redskins. The Panthers may have lost five games this season, but they're still a very talented football team.

Cam Newton Will Light Up Washington's Defense

28 of 49

In a game with John Beck likely struggling for the Washington Redskins, I'm going to say that Newton has one of his best games of the season.

Newton has completed 58.5 percent of his passes this season for 1,847 yards while recording a 78.3 quarterback rating.

This year's first overall pick is going to do a phenomenal job of displaying his talent this week.

Steve Smith Will Have 100 Yards Receiving Against Washington

29 of 49

Cam Newton has brought life back into Steve Smith this season, as Smith has had three 100-yard receiving games while accumulating 675 receiving yards this year.

Smith's success will continue against the Redskins, as Newton will have a game of his life with Smith adding at least 100 more yards to his total on the season.

John Beck Will Not Throw a Single Touchdown Against the Panthers

30 of 49

Despite the Carolina Panthers being the worst pass defense in the entire NFL, John Beck will literally stink up the house this weekend.

Believe it or not, I'm actually a fan of Rex Grossman, and I had faith in the guy. He's light years ahead of Beck, who will be making his first start since 2007, and it will not be a memorable one.

DeAngelo Williams' Struggles Will Continue This Week

31 of 49

DeAngelo Williams has been a complete bust this season, especially after signing a new five-year contract worth $43 million.

Williams has only had one 100-yard rushing game this season; all the other weeks he's combined for a total of only 187 yards. That is just terrible.

The Arizona Cardinals Will Actually Score Some Points Against the Steelers

32 of 49

Larry Fitzgerald and the Arizona Cardinals have been a pretty awful team this season with a 1-4 record, as they've lost four games in a row, but they will show some sign of life against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.

The Cardinals may appear to have no chance of winning Sunday, but I say the game will be much closer than many of us believe it will be.

Kevin Kolb Will Throw for 300 Yards Against Pittsburgh

33 of 49

Kevin Kolb has been a huge disappointment this season for the Arizona Cardinals, as he's posted only a 77.2 quarterback rating while leading the team to a pitiful 1-4 record.

Kolb and the Cardinals will show some sign of offensive firepower against one of the best defenses in the league, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I'm going out on a limb on this one, but I have a strong feeling that Kolb will be able to hook up with Larry Fitzgerald enough times to give the quarterback 300 yards passing.

Heath Miller Will Actually Catch a Touchdown Pass This Week

34 of 49

Heath Miller has the potential to be one of the NFL's best tight ends, but he never is able to produce; it's extremely frustrating.

Miller has had only one touchdown this season, but he'll somehow score a touchdown this week against the lousy Arizona Cardinals.

Pittsburgh Will Beat the Arizona Cardinals, but It Will Be Ugly

35 of 49

The Pittsburgh Steelers do have a 4-2 record, but they have been winning games in an ugly fashion.

In a game where the Steelers should absolutely demolish the Arizona Cardinals, Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers will find a way to make it interesting, as I'm predicting that Kevin Kolb will actually throw for 300 yards.

But a win is a win.

If Carson Palmer Plays, the Oakland Raiders Will Win

36 of 49

If Carson Palmer starts for the Oakland Raiders this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs, then I predict that he'll lead the Raiders to victory in his debut.

In fact, even if Palmer doesn't start, I am still picking the Raiders to win—they are playing the Chiefs.

Thomas Jones Will Run for 100 Yards Against the Raiders

37 of 49

Thomas Jones is long overdue for a big game, as he's yet to have one at all this season.

Jones has run for only 166 yards this season while averaging only 3.4 yards per carry, but somehow, some way, Jones will accumulate 100 yards against a very tough Oakland Raiders defense.

I think I might actually be crazy on this one.

The St. Louis Rams Will Upset the Dallas Cowboys

38 of 49

I have been thinking about this all season long, and I actually do believe it will happen.

The winless St. Louis Rams will get their very first win of the season against the struggling Dallas Cowboys.

You may ask how. Just continue reading!

Tony Romo Will Have One of the Worst Games of His Career Against the Rams

39 of 49

This is just one of those games where Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys are projected to win big but end up choking, as they're some of the biggest frauds in NFL history. Sorry to be so harsh, but it's true.

I'm thinking that Romo will throw around three interceptions while being sacked a lot.

Sam Bradford Will Throw Three Touchdowns Against the Cowboys

40 of 49

In order for the St. Louis Rams to actually win Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Sam Bradford is going to have to have the game of his life.

Bradford has thrown only three touchdowns all season, but those stats will double this week, as he'll throw three touchdowns in one game against the Cowboys.

Aaron Rodgers Will Throw for 500 Yards Against the Minnesota Vikings

41 of 49

This is something that Aaron Rodgers has yet to do all season, but he'll do it Sunday against the lowly Minnesota Vikings.

This game will likely get ugly, as the Vikings are simply a bad football team and have gotten worse, as they plan to start Christian Ponder at quarterback.

Christian Ponder Will Throw Five Interceptions Against Green Bay

42 of 49

Sunday will be Christian Ponder's first-ever start in the NFL, as he'll take on the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Green Bay Packers.

With that being said, this game will not go well for the Florida State product, as I'm simply saying that he'll be picked off five times. Yeah, that's right—believe it.

Minnesota's Offense Will Be Held Under 200 Yards

43 of 49

This game will get very ugly—I mean 45-0 ugly.

There is no chance that the Minnesota Vikings will score a single point this weekend against the 6-0 Green Bay Packers, especially with rookie Christian Ponder starting.

All the Packers essentially have to do is stop Adrian Peterson and let Ponder make his rookie mistakes.

Curtis Painter Will Actually Throw Two Touchdowns Against the Saints

44 of 49

Believe it or not, I am actually rooting for Curtis Painter—I want to see him succeed.

Painter has looked pretty decent so far this season for the Indianapolis Colts, as he's recorded a 93.0 quarterback rating with five touchdowns thrown compared to only one interception.

With Painter lining up against a very tough team in the New Orleans Saints, I'm actually predicting that he'll toss two touchdowns this Sunday.

The New Orleans Saints Will Not Destroy the Indianapolis Colts

45 of 49

I'm sure that you're all thinking the Saints will destroy the Colts 45-0 or something like that, but I actually think that they'll win by only two touchdowns, something like 28-14.

It seems like the Colts are always hanging around in every game despite being 0-6. They'll find a way to make Sunday's game interesting by hanging around all game.

Drew Brees Will Throw for Less Than 300 Yards Against Indy

46 of 49

All of you fantasy owners out there are probably expecting Drew Brees to throw for around 400 yards and four touchdowns this Sunday against Indianapolis—but not so fast.

I am boldly predicting that Brees will have a bit of an off game on Sunday Night Football, as he'll not reach 300 yards passing.

I'm not saying that he'll be awful, but I'm thinking more like 250 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Marques Colston Will Score Two Touchdowns in His Second Game Back from Injury

47 of 49

In Marques Colston's first game back from breaking his collarbone, he racked up seven receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown in the team's loss against Tampa Bay last week—and he'll dominate yet again against Indianapolis on Sunday Night Football.

Colston will accumulate over 100 yards receiving Sunday, as well as reel in two touchdown passes.

Joe Flacco Will Actually Throw for 300 Yards in Back-to-Back Games

48 of 49

Brace yourself, Baltimore Ravens fans: Joe Flacco will throw for 300 yards for the second-consecutive week. Can you believe it?

Flacco and the Ravens will take on the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, and he'll flourish yet again.

Baltimore's QB has only thrown for 300 yards twice this season, but he'll finally show what he's capable of doing yet again for the second-straight week.

Jack Del Rio Will Be Fired Following This Week's Loss Against Baltimore

49 of 49

See ya later, Jack—I'm thinking that Jack Del Rio's time is done this Sunday following a rather embarrassing loss against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are no means a playoff team, but there's no reason why they should be a pitiful 1-6.

There are no concrete reports on this, but it's pretty safe to assume that he's on the hot seat.
