Week 7 Waiver Wire: 5 Can't Miss Sleepers Destined for Points Bonanzas

Zachary D. RymerOct 19, 2011

Believe it or not, we are nearly halfway through the 2011 NFL season.

Okay fine, if you're that much into the whole mathematics thing, we're more like a third of the way through. Same difference.

The point is that time is a 'wasting for those of us who would be fantasy football champions. For many of us, the draft is a distant memory. But just like it was then, the modus operandi for the cleverer fantasy football owners out there is to locate and then play sleepers. They get you points, and points get you wins.

For Week 7, there are five sleepers that you absolutely must play.

DeMarco Murray, RB, Dallas Cowboys

Felix Jones is going to be out a couple of weeks (per ESPNDallas.com) with a high ankle sprain, so it's up to Tashard Choice and "Don Juan" DeMarco Murray to pick up the slack in Dallas' running game.

Between the two of them, Murray has the hot hand. The rookie is coming off a game against the New England Patriots in which he carried the ball 10 times for 32 yards, whereas Choice managed just 14 yards on five carries.

Further helping Murray's cause is the fact that he and the Cowboys are facing off against the St. Louis Rams, who have been very kind to opposing running backs this season. In fact, their strategy is basically to let running backs through and then hope that they trip somewhere in the second level.

Maurice Morris, RB, Detroit Lions

We still don't know whether or not Jahvid Best is going to be able to play in this Sunday's contest against the Atlanta Falcons, but the fact that the team went out and traded for Ronnie Brown should tell you something.

However, Brown won't be getting the bulk of the carries if Best can't go. Maurice Morris will, and it wouldn't be very surprising if he had himself a good game. The Falcons aren't really horrible against the run or anything, but the Lions are certainly not going to abandon their running game just because Best is out. Morris is going to get work, and he could produce a nice prize if the Lions find themselves in a goal line situation or two.

UPDATE: The word from ESPN (via the Detroit Free Press) is that the Ronnie Brown trade fell through. Consider Morris an even safer play as a result.

Daniel Fells, TE, Denver Broncos

All eyes will be on Tim Tebow when the Broncos take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but those same eyes could very well turn to Daniel Fells.

Fells has been quietly productive in the last couple of weeks, and he's going up against a Dolphins team that has had a very tough time containing opposing tight ends this year. To boot, Fells is second on the Broncos in targets with 19, and it's worth noting that they just lost Brandon Lloyd.

All things considered, Fells may not be a sleeper for long.

Greg Little, WR, Cleveland Browns

Us fantasy junkies were very high on Little before the season started, but the rookie got off to a slow start in Cleveland's first couple of games.

Somewhat quietly, Little is coming around. He's had six catches in each of the last two weeks, and he had a career-high 72 yards receiving against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

There are a couple things that will help Little's production on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. The first is that Cleveland's running game is in absolute disarray, which will mean more work for Colt McCoy. The second is that the Seahawks have had a very hard time corralling opposing receivers this year.

Matt Cassel, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Matt Cassel's season got off to a very, very rocky start, but he's coming around. In his last two games, he has five touchdown passes and no picks.

There are two things you have to like about Cassel's matchup against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. One is that the Raiders have given up at least two TDs to quarterbacks in five straight games. The other is that the Raiders could struggle offensively with new toy Carson Palmer under center. That will create more opportunities for Cassel, and it wouldn't be surprising if he took advantage of a Raiders defense that is likely to be quite gassed in the second half.
