NFL Power Rankings: Jets and Teams That Will Come Crashing Back Down to Earth

Ryan RudnanskyOct 19, 2011

The New York Jets may have defeated the winless Miami Dolphins in Week 6, 24-6, but Week 7 will see them come crashing back down to Earth.

The Jets continue to struggle with an ailing passing game behind quarterback Mark Sanchez and a run defense that just allowed Reggie Bush to rush for 71 yards on 10 carries.

Here are three teams bound to taste bitter defeat in Week 7—kind of like eating an orange peel.

3. Oakland Raiders (4-2)

The Raiders have proven they are a playoff contender this season behind running back Darren McFadden, but they just lost starting quarterback Jason Campbell to injury and now face a Kansas City Chiefs team that has won its last two games.

The trade for Cincinnati Bengals' disgruntled quarterback Carson Palmer was interesting, and it will keep the Raiders from trotting Kyle Boller out on the field, but I do think Palmer is going to need some time to get adjusted to playing in the NFL again.

The Chiefs play the Raiders in Oakland in Week 7, so it won't be easy, but I think they've gotten past their early-season struggles.

The Raiders secondary has been hurting since cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha's departure and the Chiefs are actually doing pretty well against the run, giving up just 3.8 yards per carry.

I see an upset in the Black Hole.

2. Chicago Bears (3-3)

The Bears bounced back in a big way in Week 6, defeating the Minnesota Vikings, 39-10.

However, that was then, and this is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers showed in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints that they do indeed have a rising defense, forcing Drew Brees to throw three interceptions in their 26-20 win.

Jay Cutler has had trouble with interceptions throughout his career and I expect the Buccaneers to win the battle of turnovers and quarterback Josh Freeman to continue developing as a franchise QB.

1. New York Jets (3-3)

Remember when we were calling the Jets a top-10 team in the offseason?

Well, those days appear to be over. The Jets beat a bad Dolphins team in Week 6 and still haven't shown they can be a threat through the air.

The Jets play the San Diego Chargers in Week 7, a team that has been notoriously strong against the pass throughout the years. The Chargers are giving up just 179.6 passing yards per game this season and know they have an opportunity to gain ground on the Raiders in the AFC West with Jason Campbell out.

The Chargers can be beat on the ground, but they won't be against a Jets team averaging 3.3 yards per carry this season. The upbeat Jets will be humbled in Week 7.
