Brandon Lloyd Rams: WR Will End Overrated and Inconsistent Career in St. Louis

Alex KayOct 17, 2011

Brandon Lloyd is being traded from the Denver Broncos to the St. Louis Rams today, according to Jason La Canfora via Twitter.

Lloyd is in his ninth season in the NFL and has had one of the more inconsistent and disappointing careers for a receiver with his talent and ability to catch the football.

It is undisclosed so far what the Rams have decided to trade in return for his services, but I guarantee the Broncos make out with the better end of the deal in the long run. They were reportedly seeking a mid-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Here is a little background on why that will be the case.

The receiver first broke on the scene in 2005 with the 49ers, catching 48 passes for 733 yards and five touchdowns. Of course the Niners were a complete failure that year and went 4-12, good for last in the NFC West.

The 49ers traded him after that season to the Washington Redskins, supposedly because of his bad attitude during his time in San Fran.

“He's got some of the best hands you'll see, and he does make plays," then coach Mike Nolan said. "We did this to make our team better.”

It is not a good sign when you are trading your ‘best’ wide receiver to make your team better.

Lloyd played awfully for Washington and then signed with the Chicago Bears after being released.

Following another inconsistent season with Chicago, the WR was gone again, this time signing with the Broncos.

It wasn’t until 2010 that Lloyd had his 'other' breakout season and put up crazy stats including 77 receptions, 1448 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Broncos smartly parlayed that success into a trade this season with St. Louis and they rid themselves of a receiver who will not have another great season again in his career.

Lloyd won’t be able to handle playing for this awful Rams team and this trade actually might hurt them more than it will help them.

Even at 0-5 with Sam Bradford struggling in Josh McDaniel’s offense (which Lloyd thrived in) the Rams should have stayed away from this deal.

I don’t expect Lloyd to contribute much this season and it would not shock me to see him struggle to even find a roster spot as a free agent after the year.

There is just too much history behind Lloyd that points to him failing in St. Louis and being the inconsistent and unproductive receiver we usually know him to be.
