Rams vs. Packers: 5 Things We Learned from Rams' 24-3 Loss

Doug ZerjalOct 16, 2011

The St. Louis Rams dropped their record to an NFL worst 0-5 this Sunday with a 24-3 loss to Green Bay Packers

Playing against the defending world champions, the Rams trailed 24-3 at the half and then played a stalemate second frame to lose by that score.

Despite the loss, there were several noteworthy performances and results from the game. Here's the five things we learned from the Rams' 24-3 loss to Green Bay.

St. Louis Doesn't Need Andrew Luck

1 of 5

Many Rams' fans and writers (including this website) have begun to discuss the Rams' 2012 draft options. That's what happens when a team starts a season the way St. Louis has begun this one. Some have proposed that the Rams take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with a possible first draft choice.

St. Louis doesn't need Andrew Luck.

Take away the obvious. The Rams drafted Sam Bradford in the 2010 draft with the first overall choice. They have millions of dollars invested in him. That's a given.

What's the other reason not to take Luck? Sam Bradford is extremely tough and a tremendous leader.

Bradford exhibited both these traits in the loss to the Packers. Bradford threw for 321 yards amidst a ferocious Green Bay pass rush that sacked him three times and knocked him down five additional times. This has sadly been Bradford's plight throughout 2011.

Never has Sam Bradford complained or blamed his fellow teammates since he joined the Rams. He is a consummate professional and great leader. The beleaguered franchise is lucky they have him.

If the St. Louis Rams are ever to turn themselves around, Sam Bradford will be a huge part of the reason they do.

Danario Alexander Is a Piece the Rams Should Keep

2 of 5

Many current Ram players and coaches may have a new home by 2012. That's the reality of the NFL. Bad teams make big changes to try and improve.

One current Ram who has pleasantly surprised this season and again against Green Bay Sunday was Danario Alexander. Alexander caught six passes for 91 yards in the loss.

Alexander was kept on the team to help specifically inside the red zone. That being said, Alexander has improved the other areas of his game as well.  He is turning into a solid NFL wide receiver and one St. Louis should keep next season and beyond.

The Rams Have Not Given Up

3 of 5

As cheesy as it sounds, the Rams don't appear to have given up.

After trailing 24-3 at the half, the Rams played hard in the second half against Green Bay.  The second half featured a stalemate game with neither side scoring. In a way, it was a moral victory for St. Louis.

The Rams limited the Packers to 96 yards rushing in the contest yielding just 3.0 yards-per-carry.  That's a considerable improvement from the 163.0 yards-per-game average so far this season.

Hopefully, the Rams can continue this solid effort going forward this season.

The Rams Will Win Multiple Games This Season

4 of 5

The Rams will win multiple games this season.

The Rams showed life. St. Louis is not even close to Green Bay talent wise, yet the Rams were able to play a decent game against them.  The Packers did not win by 30 or 40 points. This is a positive sign for the rest of the season.

With future games against the Bengals, Browns, two against Seattle and two against Arizona, the Rams will find a way to win some games this year.

The Packers Throwback Uniforms Were Terrible

5 of 5

On a lighter note, the Green Bay Packers throwback uniforms were absolutely awful. They should be banned from ever again being allowed in the NFL.

Blue jerseys with brown helmets? That just sounds bad. Color blind people know better.

While fun and interesting, throwback uniforms should not be ridiculous.
