NFL Predictions Week 6: Daniel Thomas and 2 RBs Who Will Struggle

Ryan PhillipsOct 16, 2011

Miami Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas will likely play during the team's Monday night matchup with the New York Jets. The rookie out of Kansas State is dealing with a hamstring injury, but should see the field barring any setbacks.

That said, he's probably a terrible fantasy play this week.

Thomas should remain on your bench for at least another week. Backup Lex Hilliard saw the bulk of the team's practice reps this week and, even if Thomas does play, he'll be linking up against a capable Jets run defense.

With backup Matt Moore starting under center for the injured Chad Henne, Rex Ryan is likely to gear his defense to stop the run. That's bad news for Thomas or whoever runs the ball for Miami. Keep the rookie on your bench for another week.

Washington Redskins running back Tim Hightower has been listed as questionable all week with a knee injury. Though he is likely to play against the Philadelphia Eagles and their 30th-ranked run defense, he is probably a bad fantasy option this week.

The Redskins have gotten good production out of backup Ryan Torain, and coach Mike Shanahan loves rookie Roy Helu as his change-of-pace back.

That means there is little reason for the team to rush Hightower back into a full-time position. Don't expect him to get a full load of carries on Sunday, even if he is recovered from his knee injury.

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson has been slowly recovering from a quad injury he suffered in the season's opening game. While he claims to be 100 percent recovered from the injury, that won't matter on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

The Rams are unlikely to run the ball well on Sunday for several reasons. First, the Packers have a stout rushing defense that ranks third in the NFL and is allowing just 75.8 yards per game. Second, Green Bay is likely to put up a ton of points, which means the Rams will be forced to throw the ball in an attempt to keep pace.

Neither of those things bode well for Jackson's status this week. It would be wise to sit him if you have other options.
