Fantasy Football Week 6 Projections: Greg Little and 4 Under-the-Radar WRs

Andrea HangstOct 16, 2011

A few surprising names have emerged as useful fantasy football wide receivers this week, and these four players are the focus of this slideshow.

Whether you are unimpressed with your current roster of receivers or are dealing with a depleted number of available starters due to a bye week or injuries, these four are great starts this week should you have them or if you're able to quickly grab them off of the waiver wire.

Greg Little, Cleveland Browns

1 of 4

Browns wide receiver Greg Little has been named the starting X receiver, playing alongside Mohamed Massaquoi for every down starting this week, after the team spent the bye trying to improve their passing game.

So far this season, Little has 14 catches for 131 yards, including six catches on eight targets in Week 4. He has great hands and excellent burst, allowing him to gain a lot of yardage after the grab.

With the promotion, he's instantly become one of the more surprising must-adds of the week. Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy has struggled so far this season, but much of that has to do with the unavailability of reliable, open targets.

Reliable and open are apt descriptors for the rookie receiver; he's worth both an add and a start, beginning this week against the Oakland Raiders.

James Jones, Green Bay Packers

On an offense with so many targets for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, those looking to add a Green Bay Packer wide receiver to their fantasy rosters need to strike when the iron's hot.

And right now, it's clearly on fire for James Jones. He has 14 receptions for 228 yards and two touchdowns on the season, with 140 of those and one score coming from five grabs in last week's win over the Atlanta Falcons.

With his yards increasing weekly, he's become one of the starters in the team's three-receiver sets—for now. While he's not a reliable fantasy starter every week, this week is a good time to put him into your starting lineup, especially if one of your regular starters is a Chargers receiver on the bye.

Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oakland Raiders

3 of 4

In the Raiders' last two games, receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey has 214 yards and a touchdown. While he's a perennial high-risk fantasy player, his value remains high going into his team's Week 6 contest against the Cleveland Browns.

Heyward-Bey has benefited from single coverage these past two weeks, with defenses focusing on fellow receiver Denarius Moore. Now his likely defender, Browns cornerback Joe Haden, is out for today's game, which means yet another opportunity for a 100-plus-yardage day.

Only time will tell if this is just a temporary upswing for Heyward-Bey or if he's suddenly solidified himself as a legitimate every-week fantasy starter. But for this week, he's a must-start.

Mike Sims-Walker, St. Louis Rams

4 of 4

Bear with me here, folks, but St. Louis Rams wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker might have his last fantasy-relevant performance of the season against the Green Bay Packers this Sunday.

Yes, the Rams are one of the worst offenses in the league—partly because quarterback Sam Bradford is unable to get on the same page with his weak receiver corps, and partly because when he can get the ball to Sims-Walker, he's dropped it.

Sims-Walker has just 11 catches for 139 yards and no scores thus far this season, and he had only one six-yard grab in Week 4 against the Washington Redskins. But the one area in which the Packers are weak—pass defense—might prove to be of some benefit for Sims-Walker's fantasy value this Sunday.

While he's a low recommendation as a fantasy starter this week, sometimes circumstances force you into making a risky decision. There are worse choices at receiver this week than Sims-Walker, and if you want to squeeze one final drop of fantasy usefulness out of him, this would be the time.

UPDATE: Sims-Walker has been benched this week for non-injury reasons, adding more fuel to the trade rumors that have the Broncos' Brandon Lloyd ending up with the Rams before Tuesday's trade deadline. If you want to start a Rams receiver this week, Danario Alexander and Brandon Gibson are workable options.
