NFL Picks Week 6: Which Teams Will Win in Shootouts?

Chris TrapassoOct 13, 2011

Shootouts have become the norm in today's NFL

33-30, 38-35—no big deal.

Week 6 provides a few matchups that are bound to add to the high amount of high-scoring affairs we've seen this season.

Carolina at Atlanta

With Cam Newton behind center, the Panthers can score with anyone.

Yeah, I said it.

They've been in every one of their four losses and have hung around with the Cardinals, Bears, Packers and Saints.

We should see a returned focus to the running game for the Falcons because the Panthers are allowing 135.2 yards per game on the ground.

Atlanta was shut out in the second half last week against the defending Super Bowl champs, but I expect them to move the ball consistently and score points against Carolina's defense.

The Falcons' defense hasn't been spectacular, either, ranking 23rd and 28th against the run and pass, respectively.

I like Newton to finally translate a big game into a big win.

Buffalo at New York Giants

These two teams are very similar. They like to run the football but probably love spreading you out with four and five wides and passing even more.

They have OK defenses that allow a lot of yards and quarterbacks that can look great for long stretches, then make one boneheaded mistake to cost his team the game.

So far, the Bills' Ryan Fitzpatrick has stayed away from those horrible, late-game miscues, while Eli Manning is coming off a fourth-quarter collapse last week against the Seahawks.

Both teams are allowing over 250 yards through the air and more than 120 yards on the ground.

Offensive. Fireworks.

Buffalo creates a crucial turnover late and leaves NJ with a win.

Dallas at New England

If you check out the stats, the Cowboys are near the top of almost every defensive category.

Doesn't matter to me.

Tom Brady will move the ball and put points on the board. I don't care that Rob Ryan is Dallas' defensive coordinator.

You don't think Bill Belichick is installing a game plan to counter what Ryan will do?

On the other hand, the Patriots' defense has been pretty awful to start the year, and Tony Romo has his full compliment of wide receivers back.

Should be a fun one in Foxboro.

Romo gives Dallas the lead in the final minutes, then Brady leads a game-winning drive in the final seconds.
