Tar Heels Stand Out in Yet Another ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Sayre BedingerDec 3, 2008

It doesn't seem like the home team will ever have that advantage playing at Ford Field.

The #1 North Carolina Tar Heels absolutely obliterated the #12 Michigan State Spartans 98-63 in a performance they hope won't be their last in Detroit.

Carolina was simply too fast, too talented, and too dominant for the Spartans.

Superstar Tyler Hansbrough returned in a big way, leading the Heels with 25 points and 11 rebounds, hitting 13-of-13 free throws.

Another top performer was sure-fire All-American guard Ty Lawson, who had 17 points, 8 assists, and 7 steals.

UNC took a 14-point lead into halftime and never looked back.

Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo said it best:

"I think it's potentially the best team we've played against over the years. You didn't see our real team tonight, but our real team might have lost by 20.  They're definitely one of the best teams I've seen in my 25 years at Michigan State."

UNC's most impressive accomplishment, perhaps, was the fact they held star guard Kalin Lucas to six points on 2-of-10 shooting.

Hansbrough moves up to No. 6

Tyler Hansbrough moved to sixth all-time in NCAA history, hitting 13 free throws to increase his career total to 774.

Davis Continues to Impress

Star freshman Ed Davis continues to take advantage of his opportunities, scoring 10 points and hauling in seven rebounds.

The top ranked Tar Heels will next be in action against Oral Roberts on Saturday night.
