NFL Trade Deadline: 6 Players Who Won't Be Moved, but Should Be
Peyton Hillis and others have been the center of trade rumors in the NFL. With the trade deadline coming October 18, teams are vying for some of the bigger names that will possibly be moved around.
A trade can mean the difference between the playoffs and sitting on the couch watching the playoffs. General managers around the league have a lot of work to do in the next week, but some players just won't be moved.
Here are seven players who won't be moved, but should be.
1. Peyton Hillis, RB, Cleveland Browns
1 of 6USA Today reported that Peyton Hillis didn't provide a doctors note for the game he sat out with a sore throat and fever, and that Hillis feels he doesn't have to provide one, but the Cleveland Browns owner suspects he sat out due to ongoing contract talks.
The Cleveland Plain-Dealer's Tony Grossi believes Peyton Hillis will request a trade ahead of the October 18 deadline.
This series of events is detrimental to both sides of the contract negotiations, but Madden cover-boy Hillis won't be out of Cleveland anytime soon.
One, the owners aren't about to let go of the most prominent player in a franchise that could have a future if Hillis remains.
Two, Hillis needs to realize that he is not a top-five running back, and the greatest potential he has for stardom is to star for the Browns.
Hillis may request a trade, the the Browns will deny it and keep him.
2. Brandon Lloyd, WR, Denver Broncos
2 of 6Brandon Lloyd is a solid receiver, and the St. Louis Rams are in great need of a receiver, or so thinks Evan Silva of NBC Sports. He said this in his October 10 tweet.
Although it's an interesting proposition, and the Rams' are in great need of a No. 1 wideout after the injury to Danny Amendola, the possibility of this happening is slim to none.
With the emergence of Tim Tebow, the Broncos most likely still have a shred of hope and haven't given up on the season yet, so Brandon Lloyd will not be moved.
3. Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
3 of 6The "retired" Bengals quarterback has caused way more trouble than he is worth, especially since he isn't that great.
The ESPN AFC North blog has reported that Carson Palmer has been requesting a trade since the beginning of the season and threatened his so called "retirement" if he didn't get one.
The problems with the Bengals are too big for Carson Palmer, and the Bengals will take an eye for an eye and leave him on their payroll. If Palmer had acted in good faith and cooperated, this may have been a different story, but the Bengals will not move Palmer.
He'll have to wait until the end of the season to find a new NFL team, and his options then may be small. He should be moved, but the problems between the team and player are too big to reconcile and find any sort of deal.
4. Aaron Curry, LB, Seattle Seahawks
4 of 6The former All-American and No. 4 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft is a hot target during trade season, since a few teams have linebacker corps that are depleted due to injury or under-performing.
Curry lost his starting spot in Week 3, but is reported to be having strong practices and could be a good pickup. Steve Reed of the Gatson Gazette reported about the rumor in this tweet.
The Eagles have denied being interested, even though their linebacking corps has been overwhelmed so far this season.
I don't see a possible trade that works out for the Panthers, or a sense of urgency to get him even after season-ending injuries to two starting linebackers.
Since Seattle has reported that he has been having good practices, he may find his way back on to the field on a team that is only two games behind in what is thought to be the weakest division in football. The 49ers are heating up, but with a strong finish Seattle could find themselves in the playoffs again.
Although Curry is a huge contract burden for the Seahawks, I don't see anyone want to take on his contract during the season.
5. Asante Samuel, CB, Philedelphia Eagles
5 of 6Asante Samuel, the cornerback with the most interceptions in the NFL since 2006, could be on the trading block for the Eagles in an effort to get some linebackers on a defense that desperately needs them.
In the offseason, Philadelphia added star cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie via a trade with Arizona and Nnamdi Asomugha via free agency.
Philly.com reports that even Samuel said, "I was on the trade block this year right?" When they asked him if he could see himself going to a rival team like new teammate Steve Smith did, he replied, "I mean I guess I could." Which means he feels unwanted and could possibly want to be traded.
Samuel has played well and starts at left corner for the Eagles, while Cromartie has moved to nickel back. Samuel is a defensive leader for the Eagles and is an interception machine. I don't see him moving anytime soon.
6. Derrick Mason, WR, New York Jets
6 of 6After the Jets lost to Derrick Mason's former team, the Baltimore Ravens, Mason was benched in favor of rookie Jeremy Kerley. The New York Post reports it was to give Kerley a look and not because of the critical comments he made of the team. He could be on the trading block.
Even with Mason's average season thus far, plenty of teams are still in desperate need of receivers. The St. Louis Rams could use Mason as a target for Sam Bradford to throw to.
If Rex Ryan truly meant that Mason was benched just to give Kerley a look, we will see Mason play in full force next game; Mason's concerns will be taken to heart, and all will be well.
Rex Ryan will forgive him, as we have seen he can be a little outspoken, but Derrick Mason will not be on the move.
(Plus, look how American he is in the picture, who would want to trade that?)
