NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Houston Texans and 4 Most Disappointing Teams

John RozumOct 10, 2011

Even when certain teams have the odds against them, if they don't win, it's considered a disappointment based on expectations.

And rightfully so, because how else can one reach his goals without expectations?

That said, the following four teams have been rather disappointing through five weeks in 2011.

For the sake of their fans, let's hope they can get back on track.

Houston Texans (3-2)

With WR Andre Johnson out, the Texans still had a chance to defeat the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

And since they didn't, that's exactly the point when deciding whether Houston is a great team or a good team.

We knew coming into 2011 that they were going to be in the playoff hunt, but had they been able to win without their best player, well, that would most certainly make them an ultimate force in the AFC.

'Twas not the case, however—and to make matters worse, LB Mario Williams may be out for the year, according to John McClain of Sporting News.

To that end, it won't be a surprise if Houston doesn't bounce back.

But, if the Texans do, they will become great.

New York Jets (2-3)

The Jets started out 2-0 and looked as good as anyone in the AFC, but they have since dropped three straight (all on the road) and are now on the verge of a complete meltdown.

And that's odd, because New York has gone 4-2 in the postseason each of the last two seasons and every game was on the road, so it's not normal for the Jets to lose their consistency when away from home.

Nonetheless, much improvement is needed, especially on offense, where they rank No. 21 in passing and No. 30 in rushing.

Therefore, until Mark Sanchez and company become a legit multidimensional threat, Rex Ryan's defense must win them games.

Otherwise, say goodbye to the playoffs.

Atlanta Falcons (2-3)

The home loss at Green Bay was tough, and the Falcons gave the Packers everything for a full 60 minutes.

But, right now, that's not good enough.

Atlanta has struggled on the road (1-2) and barely beat the Seahawks in Seattle, and the defense continues to disappoint, ranking No. 27 in pass defense.

Therefore, it appears the Falcons are like the exact opposite of the New York Jets. If they are to repeat as NFC South champions, QB Matt Ryan and the offense must carry the defense until further notice.

Philadelphia Eagles (1-4)

The Eagles got off to a slow start in their Week 1 win over the St. Louis Rams, and it's obvious that that was an omen for their current position.

Philly has lost four straight despite having the so-called "dream team" and being dubbed the "paper champions" for 2011.

That being said, however, the defense continues to vehemently disappoint, and the offense has not been able to pick up the slack, and thus, hasn't been able to keep pace with opposing offenses.

Not all hope is lost yet, as there's still 11 games left to play.

But, regardless, the Eagles are disappointing, and they know that everyone knows it.
