NFL Picks Week 5: Total Will Go Over as Calvin Johnson Lights Up First MNF Game

Alex KayOct 10, 2011

Every single game that the Detroit Lions have been involved with this season has gone over the total.

The linesmakers keep moving up the over/under against Detroit, but they keep covering. In Week 1, the over/under was 43.5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and has risen over consecutive weeks to 44.5, 45, 46 and now 47 this week against the Bears.

I believe that this isn’t the week that the Lions stop scoring points and you shouldn’t buck the trend just yet.

While it’s true that the Bears have a perceived good defense by the public, the reality is that they simply don’t.

They have some solid players like Brian Urlacher who are recognizable by name, but they are getting older and slower. The team has practically no talent at secondary and they have been getting burned this season.

The Bears are giving up the 30th-most passing yards in the league and also the 25th-most rushing yards on top of that. This team simply cannot stop anyone and could barely contain rookie Cam Newton and his Carolina Panthers’ offense.

While they have had to play four prolific offense teams in a row, Atlanta, New Orleans, Green Bay and Carolina, the Chicago Bears did not prove they could stop a single one of them.

Detroit is sixth in the league in passing yardage and Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are going to show the world just how good they are.

The team is finally getting respect and prime-time placement. Calvin Johnson is in his fifth year in the league, but has yet to play in a Monday Night Football game.

This is going to be his breakout night and he will be responsible for scoring a ton of TDs and yards.

Definitely bet the "over" in this game if you don’t want to lose money.
