Seattle Seahawks: Winners and Losers from 'Hawks' Win vs. Cardinals
After two highly disappointing losses, to the San Francisco 49ers opening weekend and the Pittsburgh Steelers a week after, the Seahawks have finally seemed to “right the ship” and now have a win to hang their hats on, a 13-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Against the Cardinals, the Seahawks were able to finally hold opposing offenses to a manageable score.
Here are the Seahawks who shined and bombed from their big home victory.
Winner: Chris Clemons
1 of 5If you watched the game, you realize just how dominant Chris Clemons was at shutting down Arizona’s run game and putting pressure on Arizona QB Kevin Kolb.
Clemons totaled seven tackles on the day, with a sack, three tackles for a loss, a pass deflection and a hit on Kolb.
Arizona’s O-line couldn’t find an answer for Seattle’s dynamic lineman, and it will interesting to see if Clemons can carry his success into the Seahawks' next game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Loser: Max Unger and the Entire Offensive Line
2 of 5I’m really waiting to see this line actually do something useful this season. It doesn’t help the offense has the least turnovers of any offense in the NFL, but the O-line has been absolutely terrible.
Take your pick of which has plagued the offense more:
- Bad snaps hurting timing and productivity
- Costly false start and holding penalties
- Providing Tarvaris Jackson no protection
All of the above have been major problems, and one of the reasons the Seahawks are near the bottom in most offensive categories.
When will this line start to show signs of improvement?
Winner: Marcus Trufant
3 of 5Besides the secondary giving up over 250 yards through the air, on two occasions the Seahawks defensive backs caught Kolb zoning in on receivers for interceptions.
Marcus Trufant was one of those guys, as his key interception played a major part in the Seahawks’ victory.
Trufant recorded six tackles and had a pass deflection in the game.
Without Trufant’s interception, the Seahawks might not have come out the victors Sunday.
Loser: Tarvaris Jackson
4 of 5Now, before I get ripped for this, I’m not putting all the blame on Tarvaris Jackson for his lack of success.
Jackson was sacked several times, in part due to the O-line not providing enough time, and Jackson not getting rid of the ball quick enough.
He had a low 60.0 QB rating on the day, passing for 171 yards while completing 18-of-31 passes with an interception.
Jackson needs the line to give him more time, but Jackson needs to be more accurate with passes and make better decisions.
Winner: Sidney Rice
5 of 5The biggest bright spot on the offense was Sidney Rice and his ability to constantly separate from Arizona’s defensive backs.
Rice brought in eight passes for 109 yards on the day and was Jackson’s primary target.
The next leading receiver for the Seahawks only brought in two passes, and it was clear that Rice was who Jackson felt comfortable going with.
Considering Rice was injured and questionable for Sunday, it makes his performance that much more epic. Kudos to Sidney Rice.
