Why Steve Young Is Absurd in Calling Redskins' Rex Grossman a Top 10 QB
He didn't really say it, did he?
That wasn't really Steve Young on Monday Night Countdown talking about Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman and making a declaration that surely had some folks falling out of their Lazyboys in disbelief.
No way, Steve Young didn't just say it, did he?

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"I suspect that by the end of the year, we'll be saying 'Rex Grossman—top 10 quarterback.'"
Oh really?
OK, let's think about this for a moment. Steve Young is a Hall of Fame quarterback. So who are we to say this guy is off his rocker?
You would think a great quarterback can spot another decent quarterback. After all, Grossman WAS a first-round draft pick by the Bears in 2003 and back then, Grossman attracted naysayers the way a loose football on the field attracts, well, everyone.
This is the same Rex Grossman who didn't do much for three years besides nurse injuries, but then in 2006, he was the quarterback for the Bears when they won the NFC and got to the Super Bowl.
This is the same Rex Grossman who, the following year, couldn't keep the starting job, which sent him into the purgatory known as "backup quarterback for hire."
That's exactly what he's been until Mike Shanahan, in what seemed like a moment of desperation, made Grossman the Redskins' starter this season. Well lo and behold, they were 2-0 going into Monday night.
Monday night, Grossman showed pretty much what he truly is. After all, this is a guy with a career 72.2 rating—a guy who's thrown 44 touchdown passes and thrown 42 to the other team. This is the guy who kept his team going for most of the game; heck, he even put together a 76-yard drive for the game's only touchdown.
But when it counted most, when the game was on the line, the last four offensive series by the Redskins produced three punts, then the game-ending fumble by Grossman.
That's not exactly the stuff top 10 quarterbacks are made of.
But that was what Young said BEFORE the game.
He raised eyebrows and even got Adam Schefter, another ESPNer, twittering.
ESPN's Steve Young "I suspect that by the end of the year, we'll be saying 'Rex Grossman, Top 10 quarterback.'"
Before the game, who knows? Had the Redskins won, we'd probably be talking about how darn perceptive Steve Young is.
But afterward?
Steve Young did have more than his share of concussions during his playing days, didn't he?
Either that or he's simply on the Grossman bandwagon. It was Grossman who already predicted that the 'Skins would win the NFC East this year.
Who knows, before all is said and done, they could.
Yes, and Rex Grossman could end up a top 10 quarterback.
There were also reports of some pigs flying out there near Dulles Airport on Sunday.
