Michael Vick Injury: Why Vick's Health Will Spell Doom for Eagles' Dream Team

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Wow, the Philadelphia Eagles must be wishing they had Kevin Kolb right about now.

After breaking his right hand against the New York Giants on Sunday, starting quarterback Michael Vick could be out for a while, and that means either Vince Young or second-year pro Mike Kafka will step in in relief.

I think it's safe to say that means things aren't looking too swell for the Eagles right now.

It's worth noting that while Young has been suffering from a hamstring injury, he was active on Sunday against the Giants and the Eagles opted to go with Kafka instead, who played well in relief against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, going 7-of-9 for 72 yards.

Unfortunately for Eagles fans, however, Kafka wasn't exactly stellar in relief against the Giants. Replacing Vick on Sunday, Kafka went 4-of-7 for 35 yards and two interceptions as the Eagles fell to the Giants, 29-16.

The Eagles, of course, traded away Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals in the offseason for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a move that appeared to be a good deal at the time.

But it appears having two running quarterbacks as No. 1 and No. 2 on the depth chart may have just hurt the Eagles.

Now, I'd be surprised if the Eagles don't start Young next week against the San Francisco 49ers if Vick isn't able to go (after all, Vick's left-handed so he may just tough it out). But there's no question Young would be a downgrade from Vick, despite what Skip Bayless of ESPN says.

So would Kafka.

The Eagles may be living on the edge the rest of the season, and that doesn't bode well for their Super Bowl chances.

Things just got a whole lot more troublesome for the revamped Eagles.
