Michael Vick Injury: Why Rushing QB Back Behind Bad O-Line Is Terrible Idea
At halftime of today's showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants, it's been a pedestrian day for quarterback Michael Vick, who has thrown for 83 yards and an interception while rushing for 17 yards on three carries.
Vick has also been sacked once and taken a number of solid hits. Given that Vick suffered a concussion in last week's loss to the Atlanta Falcons and his aggressive style of play, one has to wonder if it was wise for the Philadelphia coaching staff to rush Vick back so soon.
The Eagles offensive line has been solid statistically, allowing only three sacks in two games entering today. But, that has much to do with Michael Vick's athleticism as it does their skill, and the Eagles face off today against a New York Giants defensive line that's one of the best in the NFL, even without defensive end Osi Umenyiora in the lineup.

Also, backup quarterback Mike Kafka played well last week in relief of Vick, keeping the Eagles in the game, and although it would have been a tall order for the Eagles to beat the New York Giants with a backup signal-caller at the helm, Kafka at least showed he's capable of moving the Philadelphia offense.
The Philadelphia Eagles are a team with Super Bowl aspirations, but there's slim to no chance that the Eagles can attain that lofty goal without Vick under center. Today's division game is certainly an important one for the 1-1 Eagles.
However, even if they come back and win the game, should one of the shots Vick's taking result in an injury that costs the star quarterback significant time, Philadelphia will have won the battle, but lost the war.
