NFL Picks Week 3: 4 Reasons Titans Will Dominate Broncos
The Denver Broncos (1-1) will invade LP Field Sunday afternoon where they will face off against the Tennessee Titans (1-1).
Tennessee will attempt to ride the momentum they built by defeating the Baltimore Ravens, 26-13, while the Broncos will try to stay on the winning track after barely squeaking by the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-22.
Ahead are four reasons the Titans will dominate the Broncos.
Revamped Tennessee Secondary Is Firing on All Cylinders
1 of 4Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton and Titans corner Cortland Finnegan exchanged a war of words after last year's physical battle between the Titans and Broncos, which resulted in Orton calling Finnegan a cheap player.
The Titans fell apart at the seams, committed numerous penalties, and due to lack of execution in the secondary lost the game 26-20.
Finnegan will always be Tennessee's fiery corner that he was in 2010, but the other two young corners that allowed Orton to pass for 341 have grown into their own.
The Titans hold the No. 3 pass defense in the league, in part due to the play of defensive backs Alterraun Verner and Jason McCourty. Verner and McCourty combined for two interceptions, five tackles, and two pass deflections.
The trio of Finnegan, Verner, and McCourty have the potential to stand out as one of the most physical units in the league.
Titans Healthy Defense vs. Broncos Depleted Offense
2 of 4The Titans returned defensive ends Jason Jones and Derrick Morgan against Baltimore in their home-opener last week. The two players combined for four tackles, one sack and one tackle for a loss.
Denver, on the other hand, has allowed seven sacks in two games and is missing the majority of their receiving core.
If Tennessee can replicate the same intensity they brought to LP Field last week, the Broncos offensive line and quarterback Kyle Orton should be in trouble.
Denver's Poor Run Defense Will Give CJ Room to Run
3 of 4The former 2,000-yard rusher, Chris Johnson, has stumbled coming out of the gate for the Titans.
Johnson is off to the worst start of his career, rushing for a total of 77 yards in two games. There is hope for Johnson after all, as he will toe the line against the No. 28 rush defense in the league.
The Broncos have allowed 131 yards per game on the ground, including the 190 yards rushing the Oakland Raiders muscled away on the ground during opening weekend.
If there was going to be a game for CJ to get back on track, this is it.
Lack of Defensive Playmakers Should Make for a Career Day from Kenny Britt
4 of 4To say Kenny Britt is off to a fantastic start would be an understatement.
Britt is second in the league with 271 receiving yards and is easily off to the best start of his career.
Denver is averaging 204 pass yards through the air, but with injuries to the likes of defensive back Champ Bailey, defensive end Elvis Dumrevil, and linebacker D.J. Williams, Britt should have plenty of space to work with.
