MLB: Building the Ultimate Strikeout Pitcher Piece by Piece

John RozumSep 23, 2011

Think about how amazing it would be to take all the best pitcher's in baseball, regardless of whether they're a starter or reliever, and combine each of their best pitches.

We'd be creating a fusion/hybrid of a pitcher that could strikeout all 27 batters without being fouled off.

That would be utterly insane, and yet so mesmerizing to watch.

In order to create proverbial strikeout machine, here are five different pitches from five different pitchers who have mastered the art of their craft.

Check it out.

Justin Verlander's Fastball

1 of 6

When you're throwing almost 100 miles per hour on a consistent basis in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings there's not much more a batter can do against that.

Verlander thrives on settling deep into games, and he only gets better as the game continues.

His fastball however, is his masterpiece.

Clayton Kershaw's Curveball

2 of 6

When your sitting in the batter's box and the pitch starts near your head level, but then drops to your knees, just be glad your legs didn't buckle.

Sean Casey demonstrates how to properly get owned by Kershaw's curve.

Mariano Rivera's Cutter

3 of 6

If Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, or Vincent Van Gogh were to ever paint the perfect pitch, it would be Mariano Rivera's cutter.

The movement is a work of art in and of itself.

Thank you Mariano for being baseball's best painter.

Tim Lincecum's Change-Up

4 of 6

Talk about taking a whiff, Tim Lincecum's change-up can make any batter look ridiculous.

Anytime you want to see a professional look the exact opposite, watch each batter when Lincecum rules the mound, especially when he throws his change-up.

Jonny Venters' Sinker

5 of 6

Braves' pitcher Jonny Venters' sinker hits 95 miles per hour on a consistent basis.

Enough said.

Quick Recap

6 of 6

Justin Verlander (Fastball) - Was that lightning? No, just a 100 mph fastball in the eighth inning.

Clayton Kershaw (Curveball) - Ball, don't swing. Crap, that was a strike.

Mariano Rivera (Cutter) - A cutter that is more effective than an actual buzz-saw.

Tim Lincecum (Change-Up) - A freakish change-up by The Freak, who else?

Jonny Venters (Sinker) -  At least the batter got to practice his golf swing.
