New Marlins Logo: 3 Reasons Logo Change Won't Bring in Fans
The Florida Marlins are getting a new stadium, and with that, they're changing their name to the Miami Marlins.
This means a new look for the fish, and if this logo is actually real, we can only imagine how awful the actual uniforms will look.
According to MLB.com, the new uniforms will be unveiled on November 11, and while it may excite fans at first, it won't have the kind of impact the Marlins need.
Here are three reasons the Marlins won't see a great increase in fans.
Fans Have Always Been Terrible
1 of 3Attendance has always been rough for the Marlins, and a new design and a name change won't help much.
Since 2001, the Marlins' attendance was either dead last or in the bottom four among all MLB teams, including three straight years at No. 30. A decade of terrible attendance won't magically disappear because of a new look.
In fact, since they Marlins became an MLB team in 1993, they've only had five seasons where they finished in the top 15 in MLB attendance.
Fans have never cared much for the Marlins, and they aren't going to start doing so next year.
So Far So Bad
2 of 3The new logo is just a bunch of colors thrown together, and the only thing that will really excite fans is that fact that it is new.
However, since they're revealing the new uniforms in November, well before next season, fans will forget it about and no longer care, especially if they're hideous.
This new design is already off to a bad start, and there's a possibility things get worse. On the logo is believed to be their attempt at a fish tail, but really it just looks like a swoop.
There's a lot of buzz about the new look, but so far, very little of it is positive.
The Team Isn’t Great
3 of 3Yes, the Marlins have won the World Series twice in their franchise's existence, but those were the team's only two playoff appearances.
They've never finished in first place of the National League East, and they have only been in second place in the division three times since 1993.
The team just isn't very good, and that is why nobody shows up to games. The fans won't have a miraculous turnaround because they just don't care about baseball in Miami.
