Giants Faking Injuries Video: Watch Giants' Agonizing Acting Job Against Rams

Ryan RudnanskyJun 2, 2018

"The Domino Effect" was in full force on Monday as the New York Giants hosted the St. Louis Rams.

No, I'm not talking about the Rams' string of field goals.

I'm talking about the sly little maneuver the Giants pulled with the Rams threatening at the goal line in the first quarter.

With the Rams down, 7-3, quarterback Sam Bradford and Co. were driving down the field and within reach of a touchdown that would have put them up, 10-7.

But the Giants' defense had other plans.

No, the Giants didn't actually play defense and stop Bradford, they simply gave themselves a breather by faking injuries.

It was almost as if the Giants practiced it beforehand. Right when linebacker Jacquian Williams' legs gave way as if he was a scarecrow, cornerback Deon Grant swiftly followed suit, falling backwards like a kid that wanted to play in the sandbox.

Of course, this defensive strategy has been used before. It can be used to slow down the offense, give the defense a breather or simply save a timeout.

But generally it's supposed to be done with much more conviction. How the referees were persuaded by that, I'll never know. I would have given the Rams seven automatic points for that performance.

If this was planned, even spur of the moment, you would have though the Giants would have selected better actors to play the part. Quarterback Eli Manning would have played the part perfectly after joking that he was an elite quarterback early this season (calm down, Giants fans, I kid, I kid).

I would hope that the referees get together after this game and let each other know about the Giants' little tricks.

Ever heard of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf?"

Next time Williams and Grant collapse, truly injured or not, they may not get the same treatment from officials.

And they better not quit their night job because they won't pass as actors, no matter how hard they try.
