Michael Vick Injury: Will Eagles' QB Ever Be Healthy Enough for a Full Season?

Eric BowmanSep 19, 2011

Another NFL season, and yet another Michael Vick injury. At the age of 31, it's hard to believe that Vick will ever avoid the injury bug long enough to play a full season.

Against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night, Vick was tackled into a teammate of his and what was believed to be a neck injury at first was later found that he had a concussion, according to ESPN.

Vick was seen spitting up blood when leaving the field, but that was only because he bit his tongue right when he got hit.

Mike Kafka stepped in for the injured Vick, but he was unable to lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a victory. Vince Young would have a stepped in, but he was listed as inactive for the second week in a row with a hamstring injury.

It's unclear how long Vick will be out, but with a concussion being serious business, the Eagles cannot rush his return.

After this Week 2 injury, you have to wonder if those who wanted to trade Kevin Kolb now wish the Eagles hadn't.

Vick has only played a full season once in his career, and that should still stay true. He could be cleared to play in Week 3, but he has to go through a series of tests, and if the Eagles were smart, they would let him rest for a week.

The Eagles play their division rival the New York Giants next week, and if Vick is in the game, that fiery New York defense will be gunning for him.

Philadelphia took the gamble in having Vick as their full time starter knowing that he is subject o injury more than any other quarterback in the league because of his mobility.

It really hurts that Vick's latest injury happened while he was in the pocket.

He's suffered multiple injuries all over his body throughout his playing days, and it's likely to happen every year he starts for the rest of the career.

Nobody can predict the future, but the odds are against Vick being healthy enough to play a full season.

I hope he is able to play a full season again at some point in his remaining career, but since his small frame has already taken so many shots, it's hard to say that he will ever accomplish that feat again.
