Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather: I'm a Fan of Both Are You?
Boxing guru KING J, while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico over Labor Day weekend, has finally made a new YouTube video answering all the questions he has been receiving about the inevitable Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. The video is titled "Pacquiao Mayweather REAL TALK."
Many fans have been emailing me questions via YouTube, Twitter and email on, of course, the biggest fight of our lifetime: Pacquiao vs Mayweather. I felt it was time I put up another video answering the most repetitive questions I have been getting since I did the now famous Al Bernstein exclusive interview.
In this video, I explain that today you pretty much have either Pacquiao fans or Mayweather fans, and that it's rare that you have people such as myself who are big fans of both. We do not have to agree or support what they do outside of the ring, but it is all about what they do inside the ring, for they are pugilists at the end of day first and foremost.
Manny and Floyd are, without a doubt, two of the greatest fighters of this era, and if you are truly a hardcore boxing fan with respect for the sweet science, then you should be a fan of both of these fighters for what they do inside that square circle.
Manny is one of the best offensive fighters that ever laced it up. Legendary boxing historians have called him the greatest south paw fighter of all time. Floyd is one of the greatest defensive technical masters that the sport has ever seen. Floyd's ability to adapt to any type of opponent and figure him out to break him down is like an X-Men super power ability.
I also address the ongoing war between the Pacquiao trolls and Mayweather trolls. My biggest advice is to not feed the trolls, as I always said. Keep it clean and do not reduce yourself to being a troll as well by harassing others and using racial slurs or racial attacks when debating Pacquiao vs Mayweather. Keep the debates logical, based on facts and credible sources.
As I stated before when Pacquiao and Mayweather finally fight, the fight will not live up to the hype. When the hype behind anything is so powerful, it almost never lives up to the hype because the hype is so great that it is simply unrealistic to attain, such as LeBron James and his hype being built up as the one and only NBA savior and supposedly being the next Jordan before he even played a single game in the NBA.
But also style-wise, Manny and Floyd have certain fight styles that when they are matched up, will produce a very boring fight. Manny looks best and is most entertaining when he fights someone who fights similar to his own fighting style, being aggressive and willing to trade toe-to-toe with him.
Floyd is way too smart, technical and defensive-minded to fight Manny's type of fight. Just as I further explained in this previous article, Pacquiao/Mayweather will be even more boring than Pacquiao/Mosley.
Then I explain what both fighters need to do should they fight. Manny needs to learn how to properly cut off the ring and utilize his ring generalship instead of relying on his sheer aggression. Whenever a fighter starts running away from Manny instead of fighting, believe it or not, they end up getting away and we see Manny chasing them all over the ring, not being able to land cleanly and sometimes not even being able to connect at all.
Floyd will run and evade any damage from Manny for the majority of the fight, and because he is one of the best counter punchers and one of the most precise, accurate punchers in the sport, he will probably outpoint Manny as well.
So Manny needs to master cutting off the ring and using ring generalship to add to his dangerous arsenal of weapons. If Manny can not master these things, then he must stop Floyd in the first few rounds because that is when he is most vulnerable to getting hit cleanly.
Floyd just needs to get in the ring and prove to his fans and to all the haters that he is willing to fight Manny. He said during the HBO Face Off with Max Kellerman that there are five different ways to beat Manny. Well, I say pick one of those five ways and get in the ring and beat Manny once and for all. Floyd fans can defend his obvious reluctance to fight all they want, but again, Floyd is a pugilist, so we should only be debating and critiquing what he does inside that ring.
I then explain should Manny and Floyd never fight, then history will view Manny as the man and Floyd as the man who ducked him, as I pointed out in the article Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather: Who Needs Who More.
Many fans have been asking if I will do more contests. The answer is yes! As you guys know, I gave away a ringside ticket to the Pacquiao/Margarito fight, which took place at Dallas Cowboys stadium.
I will continue to do more contests for all the true fans out there that deserve it, simply because that's how I roll. I wish more people were like me as well.
Obviously Floyd is just about to get back into the ring with Victor Ortiz Saturday and Manny is slated to take on Juan Manuel Marquez in their rubber match in November for his next fight.
I think more fight fans should be more vocal and supportive in making it clear that we are fans of both Pacquiao and Mayweather instead of just being fans of just one of these fighters and only defending one fighter while attacking the other. Whatever the case may be, we just want to see these two best fighters of our era finally fight. We should not defend their excuses for not fighting such as money, testing, etc.
Someone should start selling a t-shirt that reads: "JUST GET IN THE RING ALREADY!" We can put both Manny and Floyd's faces on it as well.
Who would wear that shirt? I know I would!
