Steven Jackson Injury: Will Rams RB Cadillac Williams Rack Up Fantasy Points?

Andrea HangstSep 14, 2011

With St. Louis Rams starting running back Steven Jackson out with a quad injury for the team's Week 2 contest against the New York Giants on Monday night, Cadillac Williams will be getting the nod in his stead.

Williams, who played in the Rams' season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles when Jackson had to leave the game with the aforementioned injury, had 91 yards on 19 attempts and five receptions for 44 yards.

In a full four quarters against the Giants, he should be quite successful in putting up yards, but might struggle to match the performance of a proven starter like Jackson.

The Giants also boast a better run defense than the Eagles, so fantasy football GMs looking for Williams to rescue them from the loss of Jackson might end up disappointed, though it is likely that Jackson would have had a lower-producing outing as well.

"Lower-producing" is relative, however. Here, I mean the difference between 180 and 160 yards rushing, not that he should struggle to score.

Williams is a must-start for fantasy GMs with him on their roster, regardless of whether they have Jackson on their benches.

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, who injured his finger, will probably play but won't be at 100 percent. Combine that with the loss of wide receiver Danny Amendola, who has a dislocated elbow, and it's looking like the Rams passing attack will suffer.

Enter Williams. If anyone on the Rams roster is going to be a surefire fantasy goldmine in Week 2, it is he.

While GMs should temper their expectations about his production in consideration of the run defense he will be facing, there should be no doubt that Williams is a must-start.
