Week 2 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: 5 Injury Replacements To Pounce on

Jun 7, 2018

You know that old saying about one door opening when another door closes? It definitely applies to fantasy football.

Specifically, it applies when we're talking about injuries. They do tend to happen in football and the toll an injury can take on a fantasy football team can be devastating. Arian Foster doesn't want to hear about it, but it's true.

With Week 1 in the NFL officially in the books, there are a number of players who are banged up at present. But while they recover, other players will get their chances. They can benefit their teams and they can also benefit the shrewdest fantasy owners.

If you want to be known as one of those, you need to hurry up and go grab one of the five guys listed below.

5. Domenik Hixon, WR, New York Giants

The news is not good concerning Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday that Nicks' injured knee has become a "serious source of concern" and that his status for Monday's game against the St. Louis Rams is "uncertain."

If Nicks can't go, somebody is going to have to step up for the Giants. That somebody might just be Domenik Hixon.

Hixon, a six-year veteran out of Akron, had only two catches for 21 yards against the Washington Redskins, but Eli Manning did target him four times.

Maybe he liked what he saw? It's worth a gamble.

4. Willis McGahee, RB, Denver Broncos

There was a time when Willis McGahee was the man in Denver. It may now be time for him to turn back the clock.

McGahee did not have a very good game against the Oakland Raiders on Monday night; he carried the ball just four times for a measly three yards. But starting running back Knowshon Moreno had to limp off the field late in the game and he looked like he was in some pain.

As of Tuesday night, there was no official word regarding Moreno's status, but I would pick up McGahee just in case.

3. Devery Henderson, WR, New Orleans Saints

Saints wide receiver Devery Henderson is typically something of an odd man out in Sean Payton's offense, but he surprised by catching six balls for 100 yards and a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers.

And there's only going to be more work headed Henderson's way. Fellow wide receiver Marques Colston is going to be out for a couple of weeks with a broken collarbone. Bad news for him, good news for Henderson.

2. Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, RB, St. Louis Rams

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers great Cadillac Williams was pressed into action against the Philadelphia Eagles after Steven Jackson went down with a quadriceps injury and he performed quite well. He gained 91 yards on 19 carries and another 49 yards on five receptions.

As of Monday, the word from the Rams' official Twitter feed is that Jackson is "likely" going to miss the team's Monday night game against the New York Giants. That means more work for Williams.

1. Ben Tate, RB, Houston Texans

First the Texans declared the aforementioned Mr. Foster inactive and then backup running back Derrick Ward suffered a sprained ankle. In stepped Ben Tate, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.

It's still unclear how much longer Foster is going to be out, but it stands to reason that Tate is going to get the bulk of the carries as long as he's out. Even if Foster does come back this week, I would still pick up Tate if I were you. There's just no telling how well Foster's hamstring is going to hold up.
