Randall Cobb: Fantasy Waiver Wire Must or One-Week Wonder?
Randall Cobb did a barrel roll!
No, really. Cobb, the rookie wide receiver of the Green Bay Packers, actually did a barrel roll. And it was awesome.
In case you missed it, Cobb did said barrel roll during a 108-yard kickoff return touchdown in the third quarter of the Pack's opener against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night. It was a unorthodox move, but it appeared to be the best course of action with a Saints defender trying to torpedo his groin.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
After he broke away from the hit, Cobb was able to coast into the end zone for six. And as we all know, six points for the Pack also means six points for fantasy owners.
Oh by the way, those aren't the only six points Cobb has given fantasy owners tonight. He also caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter. At the moment, it's one of two catches he has on the night, albeit it for a mere 35 yards.
So if your league uses traditional scoring standards that award six points for a return touchdown, six points for a touchdown catch, and a point for every 10 yards, Cobb has gotten you 15 points so far tonight. Add on points per reception, and he's gotten you 17.
Obviously, those are the kinds of numbers that you'll take from a wide receiver, especially the third or fourth guy in your lineup.
The question begging to be asked, though, is whether or not Cobb is going to be able to produce like this every week.
My best guess: probably not. It would be stupid to assume that Cobb is going to bring a kickoff back every week, especially with that stupid new rule that has kickoffs coming from the 35-yard line. That Cobb bothered to bring the ball out in the first place in tonight's game was a shocker at the time the play was unfolding.
But can Cobb be a consistent part of the Pack's passing attack? I think the best answer I can give there is maybe. I don't think he's going to overtake Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson or Jermichael Finley in the Pack's hierarchy, but I do think there are going to be more passes coming his way.
The simple reason for this is that Rodgers is the kind of quarterback who has no problem whatsoever spreading the ball around. He only cares if you're open, not what your name is. For example, he's already completed passes to eight different receivers against the Saints, and the game's not over yet.
If you're in a 10- or 12-team league in which the best receivers in the league are evenly distributed, my advice would be not to put too much faith in Cobb. He's having a great game tonight, but I wouldn't assume that's going to be the norm.
But if you're in a deeper 15- or 20-team league, you could do worse than Cobb. You can stash him in your third WR or W/R spot, where anything he gives you will be a bonus.
Shoot, I'm in a 20-team league and I just went and picked him up. Now all I have to do is convince my commish to amend the rules so players get extra points for barrel rolls...
