Fantasy football owners can expect the controversy to begin bubbling immediately after the conclusion of Thursday night's game between the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers: Should Packers running back James Starks start over Ryan Grant?
A second-quarter touchdown run would lend some credence to the idea that, yes, Starks should be Green Bay's starting back.
With 2:05 remaining in the second quarter, Starks took a handoff from Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and laughed his way through the New Orleans secondary, lunging with pathetic tackle attempts. For Saints fans, it had to be reminiscent of Marshawn Lynch's "beast mode" run in the Saints' wild card loss to the Seattle Seahawks this past January.
Starks may be emerging as a key fantasy football sleeper. Though not designated as a starter, he could prove to be a more effective back than Grant this year and eventually earn the lion's share of carries.
Fantasy owners would be wise to scan the waiver wire and see if Starks is available.
